I think afer the Donny game, if they are fit enough to train, then they are fit enough to play.

Nobody expects us to get anything on Saturday, so might as well treat it as a another training game and get 60 minutes from Turner and Kightly.

Kightley got injured at Charlton and brown said 2/3 weeks out how long ago was Charlton 4/5 weeks ago?

2/3 weeks could refer to actual time out, therefore that's likely to be when they return to training

I may be alone here but I’m not massively concerned. We shouldn’t take risks by rushing back players that could harm our season prospects. As long as we are top half by January I think we will see changes particularly in defence that will push us on in the second half of the season towards that target of a top 6 finish. 3 points against Wigan this weekend (or a point) would be a bonus but isn’t the be all and end all.

Rob Kiernan heading to Sweden to see knee specialist. Will find out if he needs an operation. More to follow.

1:33 am - 12 Oct 2017 From Southend-on-Sea, East

How come the knee specialist is in Sweden? :stunned:

According to the Echo report he's gone to see a specialist in Sweden who is only in London one weekend every two months. Mr Brown says it shows how seriously the club is taking this. Kiernan has been having a series of injections and he's on number two of eight.

I really don't know the answer to this question but given the number of injuries we are getting, and the length of time that our players are out injured, do we need to review our current medical set up?

Do we need to improve our initial medical testing prior to signing players? - we all know they had concerns re Turner but he signed in any event.

I know that Ben Clarkson has an excellent reputation with all involved at the club so actually struggle to think that this could be an issue.

Or are we just blooming unlucky with the injuries to previously non-injury prone players like Coker, Kyprianou, Kiernan and Kightly?

Whichever the cause, the injuries are wrecking our season to date :0(

Phil did talk about the sports sciences on Monday, citing the fact that injuries which, a decade or so back, would only have taken a few weeks to clear up, now take a few months and questioned whether in fact the advances in some area are detracting in others.

If they had been that serious they wouldn't have signed someone with an injury to start with. Before anyone says anything, yes he was injured when we signed him, OBL can confirm that

I know Kightly may appear quite durable compared to some we've signed but he's in his 30s and only has three seasons in which he's played more than 23 or more league games (ie half a season) and one of those was 2005-06 for Grays in the Conference. None were in the last 3 years.

He's had a significant amount of surgery.

To see him injured is hardly surprising.

With Rob Kiernan its been said before that . Phil Brown knew that he has had problems with his knee .So why the hell did he part with a fee for a player who might be a high risk . No matter how small or large the fee was payed .Its still money from the players budget that seems to have been wasted .

Did he?

Anyone have any details of this?

I seen this on SZ from LeeBlue and now you but I can't find anything on t'interweb to that effect. Can either of you elucidate?

Cheers

Problem is also Kiernan was banished by the new Rangers manager so had no pre-season. Turner has not played for nearly 2 years so no surprise he got crocked. Kightly has had many injuries over the years too, as YB pointed out.
Its no surprise our most durable players have always been those who perhaps look after themselves best and regularly play 35-40 games a season. Don't think the medical team can be blamed at all.
