SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher provides an update on the club's injured players ahead of Saturday's match with Torquay United at Roots Hall.

Steve Arnold (back): "I’m not sure if he will make it for Saturday. We’re monitoring him and assessing him every day. It’s something that needs managing."

Nathan Ralph (knee): "He’s touch and go for Saturday. We have two days to prepare for the game now and we’ll see how he is."

Noor Husin (knee): "Noor will be out on the grass today doing a bit of running. Saturday will probably come too soon for him."

Rhys Murphy (knee): "Murph has done some ball work. Because he’s been out a long time there’s a lot to build up to. We want to make sure nothing happens again. We will have to make sure he’s right."

Harry Taylor (knee): "He’s progressing but he hasn’t been out on the grass yet. We’re monitoring him and it will be another couple of weeks at least I would’ve thought."

Harry Cardwell (ankle): "Harry’s done some jogging but obviously it’s similar to Murph in that he’s been out with a pretty serious injury so we’ve got to make the base is right for them to continue so when they do come back there are no issues."

Jake Hyde (hamstring): "He’s pushing on. We have two days before the game and I’m not sure he will make Saturday. But there’s progress in terms of people being out on the grass and doing some work which is positive."

Ralph looks about the only one who might be back in the next week, or so.

Every passing week one reads about Murphy, the more it's a worry.

Not sure about the news on Steeeve either.
It needs 'managing'? Is that manager-speak for we have to patch him up for the foreseeable future?

And think how much better off we will be when we have all of those players fit and available for selection!
Do you think there will be a time when all are available at the same time?
And if that did happen would there be a separate thread on here effectively the same , just change the name for players who are current 1st choice on merit?

Sorry just being realistic/ managing expectations.

On a positive note, every injury is an “opportunity “ for someone

Time for Clofford to shine

Husin, Hyde, Cardwell and Murphy back in some sort of training is good news. Will obviously see the former two back on the bench sooner than the latter, which I expect will be featuring in some B team games to build match fitness.

Hopefully Arnold, Ralph and Taylor will not have a too big an injury. I do like Ndi, but Arnold has shown to be a key player, along with Ralph at left wing back.

Hopefully by October/November those on the list will be back and ready to play with minimal set backs and other injuries.
