I have to say I have never seen anything like this morning in Manchester City Centre with the invasion of Glasgow Rangers.

Was advised by my brother-in-law who is in the traffic police for GMP not to drive in to work today with all the road closures around Manchester City Centre to accomodate the fanzones. I get in to Manchester Piccadilly just before 8am to be greeted by plenty of Rangers fans arriving in good spirits.

I then walked through the City to the office and I could not believe at that time the amount of fans out on the streets already boozing and in high spirits. It was clearly evident that many had not been to bed!

Just popped out to the Tesco Metro and the main roads are basically jammed with cars, limos, coaches, minibuses full of Rangers fans arriving for the match. As soon as the Tesco staff were putting new stocks of beer out it was being taken off the shelves.

All the pavements and junctions are just a sea of red and blue shirts, flags etc. Great to see but I have no idea where they are all going to watch the game as the fanzones set up are not that big.

Off for a pint at lunch to soak up the atmosphere with approx 100k Rangers fans.

One of the women here lives near Blackpool so has to come on the M6 and it has taken her nearly 4 hours to get here. She said it was jammed with Rangers fans who were dancing on the roofs plus the hard shoulder was full of empty beer cans!

think he means the city centre... i'm tempted to head to picadilly gardens for the CL final next week.

also you can always rely on Stuart from Mogwai (a die hard Celtic fan) for a good quote:
"the average IQ in Scotland is set to rise by 50 over the next 48 hours!"

thus making it 54 I guess...

Yep indeed the City Centre. Rangers have only been given 13k tickets and the capacity for the ground tonight is 44k.

They seem to like their cider as that's what most of them appear to be drinking on the streets! Think it is going to be a massive clean up operation through the night!

According to SSN, if all the 'Gers coaches had set off at the same time there would be...

Wait for it.....

13 miles of tailbacks.

And that's not including the fans who are making their own way - you're talking upwards of 20 miles then probably.

Be prepared to clean up after them. As IMO the average Jock football supporter is incapable of using a toilet, preferring to defecate, urinate or vomit where they stand.

I agree Harry..I have seen the state of Aberdeen Shrimper and GlasgowSUFC......;)

Just been out for a pint and could get no where the official beer tents within the fanzone at Albert Sq. Great atmosphere with most bladdered. Looking at it I would think more than 100k are down here.

We are shutting the office at 3.30pm to allow staff extra time to get home. Roads are at a stand still.

any idea if they are going to set up screens for the CL final next week?

As far as I know no screens are being put up for the CL final. I know places such as Manchester 235 casino are showing it on their big screen with a panel of ex United players such as Lee Sharpe etc.

fair enough... i might just stay in sheff to watch it then, was thinking if they put it up in pic gardens or albert sq it would be amazing

100k? The City of Manchester can't hold that, can it? Though it was 50k tops? Just goes to show you that no-oe pays attention to the police when they say "If you don't have a ticket, don't come".

if i was a fan who couldnt get a ticket i wouldnt care what the police say about not going with out a ticket, it the clubs biggest day ever in club history i say good on em

just think if that was Southend and you didnt get a ticket....would you go?
