Simple question, does it really take that 1 find, that 1 talent, that can seperate a decent l2 team, to a promotion winning team, that something special for the fans and the squad. The kind of player that instills a winning confidence throughout the team?

I think a great deal of teams certainly are, I think with a solid all round team one player with that extra bit of talent really can make all the difference.

I think that sometimes a player comes in that inspires confidence in the whole team. They play with a belief that he will score more often than not, and that 'blind' belief then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. The team relax behind him and play confidently, deliver good balls for him and he then puts a number of them in the net.

The big danger is though, that they then fall apart when he inevitably gets bought by a bigger club because they have lost the faith in themselves.

Absolutely. Next question.

A player like Freddy can make a difference at this level. But as we proved last season just having a 20 goal striker isn't always the difference between being successful or not.

According to the Football League Paper today Freddy has been told his not fit enough for Championship Football
and thats not a opening for him to drop into Div 2 to help us out, his been sent there to Fitness Boot camp at the National Sports Centre Lilleshall by his manager as he is unhappy with his fitness levels Andy Thorn needs him to be available for selection - as its all hands on deck

No, but most are a Freddy, Gower, Flavs, Barrett and Beno away

Indeed, it was great to see G-man playing against Arsenal in the Prem. He was underrated then and to some extent he still is. Freddy took the glory because he scored a lot of stunners, but players like Gower were indispensable too... and Juppy scored in Cardiff:happy:

What's the question? One player separating a decent L2 team from the other promotion contenders, is a very different statement from every L2 team is a "Freddy" away from promotion. Unless you think all L2 teams are decent.

Some teams may only be an individual away from being a complete team and in that sense a Freddy (or a Spencer Prior or Mark Gower or a Kevin Maher) might put them over the edge, but it is a team game. You need players who can complement your existing players and play the tactics you want to play. Ultimately the team who wins, is just that: a team.

What instills a winning confidence in a team is winning.

i've argued with you before on this yorkshire, so not to tread water, of course its a team game, and a squad game.
The question was whether having 1 player in your team scoring goals for fun, exciting the fans, and taking you near the top of the league is the difference between every other middle of the road L2 team, and a promotion winning L2 team.
