Is it worth still investing in the youth academy?

If like me the finances are biting and you are running at a loss, does it make sense to continue investing in the youth academy at a time when the transfer market is deflated?

How much are you receiving from your sales of youth players?
How much are you spending on trainees in the transfer market?

For the £60k you invest in one YP (it's actually more once you include repairing the youth academy), is it more cost efficient to just spend that same £60k on the transfer market? Is it worth sitting tight in there, because if you strike it lucky that's winning the lottery?

You only need one half decent pull every three seasons for it to pay for itself and one good pull can set you up. It's a decent gamble for me for what is effectively peanuts compared to gate receipts and wages.

My respectable pull ends this evening with a £885 wage. Listed for 1k and no bids yet. Looks like I may only be worth bothering with buying 35 ITS for week 1 but not afterwards.

I think it's worth the gamble. As B says, compared to the other cash willing around the game it's small beer. Besides, I don't see how you can complain after the monster you pulled a couple of years ago. :smiles:

My week 2 pull sold for 499k, so that's probably paid for my acadamy for this season.

I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering whether I should quit whilst ahead.

It makes no sense. The only reason to be keen to get a player in Week 1 is if you want to train for the U19s and low respectables have no chance of making it. Yet my player who was base respectable goes for £660k in Week 1 (albeit an attacking quick). True I paid £1m for a respectable in Week 1 but he has a wage of £1,000 and competent batting and I wanted an all rounder.

But for other mid respectables, buying in Week One is a complete waste, a Week Three purchase gets you the same player for a third of the price who will need to weeks extra training at the end to make them the same player!

I've stopped bothering with the week 5/6 pull. Doesn't justify the ITS spend. I will continue with the first three though, 105 ITS plus one academy repair is £240k per season, nothing really.

And if he doesn't go up much I'd rebuy him, train to proficient, then sell after 6 weeks as you'd make decent cash for that (especially if his consistency popped as well).

I'll be at Roots Hall. Oops :dim:
