1) first and foremost, he is trying to build us a nice new ground. Ambitious yes, too big? Maybe. But I don't think many of us were against it at the start and if it does come off, then how fantastic. Yes, martin stands to make a lot of money at the end, but we all agreed this week that anyone coming in would be in it to make money and not many see that as a bad thing.

First and foremost he is trying to build an overall (and over ambitious ?) property development which happens, out of necessity to him, to include a football stadium which we would be tenants in.

Semantics. He's acknowledging that the development is a money-making exercise on Ron Martin's part, and no one has ever said otherwise.

Fortunately for us the real money from all this can only be earned if the new ground is delivered.

Oh grow up for Christ sake. How old are you?

.. you never stop sticking up for the fraud. Shi t on Brush, Tilly and many others. Sends his wife out last night to tame the crowd, dissapears rapidly from today's conference, something amiss with the bloke so why the protection for him?

What the **** are you on about? :D this is the first 'pro ron' thread I've posted - if it even is that - in about 6 months.

To think i took you off ignore recently. If you cannot have a decent debate, then I'm not interested in what you have to say. Back on ignore.

wiggy. It was pretty obvious to me that your initial post wasn't exactly a rousing endorsement of the ownership of Ron Martin, yet it seems that unless you're calling him a money-grabbing **** (albeit one with a wonderful head of hair) who is deliberately bleeding us dry to keep himself in constant supply of Bentleys, then you're in love with him.

Or sitting in a tree :)

You always seem to get one like wiggy on any sort of forum. I wonder how they survive day to day...

Yes he is and DTS made a great start with his list...unfortunately the list is endless...

And that's wrong because...

Nothing is wrong with that per se; it is just somewhat unfortunate that he has allowed the football side of his operation to go to rack and ruin whilst he focusses on the bigger (for him) end game.

See, this is what I dont get. If HE wins, WE win.

If we win and become a sustainable club in a new stadium and all the trappings that brings and he makes millions on the side from the development, where is the problem?

If it all goes wrong to the point where there is no football club, then I'm guessing (and it is a guess) that he will be a ruined man too?

Steve Martin makes me laugh and he is rons half brother so its not all bad in the martin household,oh and rons wife is fit.

2) non payment of wages and bills. On the surface this is terrible of course it is. It probably cost us our league status last season and caused no end of unrest and hurt. But again, take the emotion out of 'he is killing our club' and think about it. Did he have any other choice? He cannot produce money from out of his backside, so there is only so much to go round. Like running the country, there is only a finite amount of resources, it's just where you choose to spend it.

I would argue that this was solely Martin's fault in the first place, come on it doesn't take a genius to work out that with the massive £2m+ loss of income on relegation from the Championship we should have cut the wage bill somewhat. People talk about the Eastwood money and OK fine with that underpinning most of the shortfall for that first season back in League One then yes I guess you could afford to keep the same wage bill and have ONE shot at bouncing straight back up. We did that and just missed out, fair enough but it was essential we then slashed the wage bill for the following season. Martin didn't do that and gambled again.....and again last season.....THAT is why we are in this mess!!

I have no sympathy, it's his fault and he has no-one else to blame.

I love Ron because he signed Laurie Dudfield, got us to two cup finals, won two promotions, scored the winning goal against Manchester United and took the throw in for Clarkey's header at Stamford Bridge. When we got relegated he was attending a function at his son's school so couldn't really do much about it. His biggest legacy was his introduction of strict personality, family background and UK citizenship tests for all our players.

For me it will always be the 'Ron Martin' era, even if Steve Tilson and Freddy Eastwood keep trying to claim credit for it.

Totally agree - so ok, my original point then - Yes, Ron Martin has made a mistake. He paid massive wages beyond our means and THAT, coupled with the recession etc has meant we are drowning, gasping for air.

Since then, he has been trying to battle to keep us alive (yes, for his own end goal as much as ours), but what is the alternative?

We want the stadium, need the stadium and I suggest have paid an absolute fortune to get this far - if we drop it now, we'd be forever crippled with debt - is trying to keep going (and all the trappings that come with that, like not paying players, losing Tilson etc) worth it?

I could be the case we look back in 10 years time in the Championship, in the Ron Martin Megaplex Arena and think, "yes, it was worth it"... who knows.

All I'm saying is since the point when he paid too much in wages and is now trying to cling onto any hopes he has of the new stadium - is that purposely killing the club, or is that someone fighting for our (and yes, his) survival? And in the meantime, trying to run a football club and all that goes with it.
