No way.

Clarkey handled his move with integrity and will always respect him for that. Rawley agreed to sign for the Blues only to turn his car around half way down the motorway and join poxy Oxford.

No comparrison.

Rawle said he was coming into Roots Hall to sign his new contract but instead went to Oxford to sign for them.

Clarke hasn't done anything like that.

Totally wrong, I had an interview with Mark re another site, and the problem was he was coming down to Roots Hall to sign the contract on the Wednesday which he praises Ron Martin for, only for Steve Wignall to tear up.

He then went to Oxford on the Thursday where the money was a little better, plus the promise of first team football , this was something Wignall would not guarentee despite being the club leading scorer

But hey lets not let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I stand corrected, although he did seem to spend alot of time on bench at Oxford.

But hey pro footballers never ever twist the argument to their benefit,do they.

I don't think you can call Peter Clarke a greedy person. It appears that the main reason for him moving club was to do with his family which is fair enough in my book.

Firstly, I liked Clarke for his commitment but people seem to forget that he only really seemed to perform to his best alongside Dervitte, maybe Barratt would have done the same.

Despite him being commited, he had his flaws in terms of poor distribution and the odd mistake. Unlike when recent others have left in the summers, he is actually replaceable in my opinion unlike when we lost Freddie, Gower and Bailey!

Also I am shocked that people say that Clarke has left with integrity, but personally I actually doubt whether he ever really even considered staying at Southend.

He made noises about wanting to move to play in the Championship and deep down you cant begrudge this....however he has opted to join a side that finished below us in the table.

As said yesterday, he received a significantly better wage offer from 'Ambitious' Huddersfield. For me, this is similar to Gareth Barry and what he did last week!!!! (lesser scale obviously)

I maybe wont go as far as booing Clarkey, but I wont welcome him back either.... this I would have done had he joined a Championship club or even a big club in our league like Leeds or Norwich

Good post this one. I agree that Clarke was committed whilst here and I liked him.But as is said he has joined a club that finished below us because they are paying him more and probably offering a longer contract.Would he have been quite so keen to move back to his beloved north if we had doubled his wages?Football is all about money even at this level. That said good luck to him and has been said I will be sitting on my hands when he returns to Roots Hall

Not at all. You have to remember that this is a job, and Peter Clarke has given us 3 years, but is now becoming a family man, and moving back to his (and hers) roots.

I am sad to see him leave, but I have a massive amount of respect for him for the reasons he has gone.

Will miss him, and hope he has a shocker when we play them (we all know he is capable of them after all)

I believe I was stating the truth. Mark Rawle was pony.

It makes me laugh when people call players greedy when they move for money. I know i would move jobs for more money, why wouldnt you?
