It is officially World Cup Month

****housery at it's awful best.

They just can't help themselves.

Hopefully they'll come unstuck at the next hurdle but have a horrible feeling the Argies will make the final now.
I hope they win it if England don't. Would net 300+ if they do. They should reach the finals.

How poor was that Referee?

The number of yellow cards he end up giving was ridiculous.

And yet how did Messi not get booked for the handball.?

I think you're missing one as well, he showed a yellow to someone during one of the kerffules during the pen shoot out.

Could easily have been some reds shown as well.

There seems to be a lot of people saying (on social media and amongst friends etc) that the WC is now going the way of Argentina .. what with Brazil going out and with the Messi factor. Well, they won’t find Croatia easy and they’ve still got to beat England, France, Morocco or Portugal if they get past them. Netherlands only got going after about 80 mins, shame for them .. got a bit feisty didn’t it?! Two great QF’s so far.

Whilst watching yesterday's matches on bbc1 got a notification to press a button to watch in uhd - which I did. Must say it was fantastic, picture quality was amazing - but there was a lag, about a 30secs to a minute being the HD channel.

Anyone know if ITV are showing tonight's match in uhd?

ITV pundits continuing to drum up nonexistent controversy, this time claiming that a goalkeeper taking out a striker that's knocked the ball past him isn't a penalty because the keeper "was just trying to save it", half time was basically them shouting at Peter Walton (who was trying to explain why that doesn't matter) that he's wrong.

On the plus side when Ally McCoist and Lee Dixon came back on the commentary they said they didn't have a clue what the pundits were on about, sure Roy Keane will be delighted to know even his colleagues think he's an idiot.

As clear and obvious a penalty you’ll ever see. Can’t understand the criticism of it.

That was embarrassing. If Nev, Keane, or Wrighty had burst into the area in their day, knocked the ball past the keeper, then got wiped out by him they would have been screaming for a pen all day. For the amount of £'s they're getting paid, they should know these things and not have to refer to an ex referee to tell them what's what.

One of the best things about watching the World Cup on Latvian television is that there is no commentary, just the crowd and other ambient sounds, which provides a great atmosphere. Mercifully spared from commentators imposing their views or stating the obvious and no 'pundits' filling the airwaves with their barely articulate inanities. It has been a pleasure to watch football free of the drivel of these overpaid buffoons.

Or as we call it in the U.K., the mute button 👍🏻

No, because you don't get the crowd noise or the atmosphere plus players, refs comments when near a sound effects mic.

Stadiums have been half empty, and aside from a strong South American following, I’ve found the atmospheres have looked and sounded rather flat tbh.

Shame, because a tournament of this prestige should never be viewed in front of such poor attendances.

Sound has been exceptionally vivid in my experience and I have watched every game. Maybe Uk broadcasters tone it down for balance against commentators voices.

Sound and atmosphere are two different things though.

There was plenty of noise when we played at Wembley in the playoff final, but it wasn’t a patch on some of the atmospheres we’ve had this season alone (Barnet away for example) IMHO.

Edit: World Cup in South Africa is another prime example. Plenty of noise generated due to them god awful vuvuzelas, but that doesn’t make an atmosphere. The ebb, flow and fluidity of an organic crowd is what makes an atmosphere.
