Latest Rumours January transfer window

At one level you have to feel sorry for Ricky H. He developed a major back problem while working on a Horsham building site during non league days with Chelmsford City, which subsequently has significantly dogged his career.
In fact, so much so that he could not play for 16 months with Sheffield United and continued to struggle with the severity of the problem at Barnet, Portsmouth, Northampton, Charlton Oxford and Gillingham

Last May he revealed he was to retire having revealed 10 years of graft with his back, finally getting the better of him. He tried with a last day transfer deal with Gillingham previously in January 2019 , despite being injured, to regain fitness, but couldn’t manage it, and sadly failed after 3 months and made no appearacies.
An operation to shave bulging discs in the left side of the back initially helped as did injections, but then the same problem happened down the right hand side. Gradually the injections were having less effect
Last summer with a new baby he revealed he didn’t want to risk not playing in the park with his kids when he was forty, however he returned to Northampton in an attempt to regain fitness and played 9 times on a play as you go contract

Makes you wonder why he's still looking for another gig if he knows his back is done for. Pay as you play (or pay if you're fit to play) would be the only way to consider it.

You left out the bit about him going back to a leading specialist who they believe has "fixed" the problem and hence him changing his decision and playing again. Without this he would have stayed retired. Somewhat relevant as is the comment from the manager/club below:

"We know we run the risk that Ricky could get an offer from somewhere else because now he's proved his fitness, he's proved his value and he's also proved that he's over the injury he had,’ said Curle

Not saying we should sign him- the only person who can know if that makes sense is MM. But for completeness...

Doesn't look to bad tbf. Unfortunately the position we are in the league not gonna attract that 20 goal season man. I say roll the dice and bring him in till the end of the season, can safely say he be better than sterling.....
