Two internationals go to head to hear, Welsh international Jimmy Evans (the first player to be capped at Southend?) and Peter Taylor who went onto play for England.

Head to hear?

I would have loved to have seen Evans in action - running up from the left back position to take penalties! Plus, we were going to build the team arouind him, sadly we had to sell him on. Still has the record for most goals scored in a season from a full-back! I dont know if he was the first capped player, but it wouldnt surprise me.

Yes, I wondered that as well. I'll blame it on fat fingers syndrome, what with the r being arouind the d key.....

Peter Taylor, the last player to be selected for England whilst playing for a third tier club, and he scored as well !!!

The only player in modern times to make his professional debut at Southend and then go on to play for England

The only Southend player ever to manage the national side too

That sounds good enough for me, Spud Taylor it is then.
