Could someone please fill me in on what is the latest regarding JH.

The guy put in some very competent displays against Chelski and Weeds and his long throw gave us an extra attacking option (and helped us earn a very lucrative cup replay).

He is one of the few players we have who can put in a decent cross with his left foot and I have wondered for a while whether he could convert to a left-mid, which might also provide a bit of cover when Barrett goes foraging forward.

He caught the eye with his attacking displays from left back and his long throw-ins but then his defensive frailty's were cruelly exposed in a few games after, starting with the Chelsea replay. He was getting skinned by any half decent winger and was easily beaten in the air when marking an attacker close to our goal.

May be you are right and left-mid would probably suit him a lot better, or maybe even try him on left wing in our friendlies.

I think he's a left-back and that's where he should play. I don't think he's got the pace, the power or the trickery to beat his man if he's played on the left-wing.

Last season was a good experience for him although I thought that leaving him out at the time that we did was the right call - as TSNB points out he was beginning to get skinned regularly and we looked much more solid with Barrett in that position. I'm sure that he'll get chances again this year, although personally I think he's too small and I have my doubts about whether he'll be here in 12 months time.

He reminds me of hammell, in that you expect him to be too small, but I think he's actually pretty decent in the air.

I would agree with that, I think it was at Hereford they were targeting him with long balls in the air and he won quite a few of them.

What I'd like to see us do, assuming we can't get Harding and De Vries doesn't get a contract, is bring in an older left back like Chris Powell to help out with Herd.

I think we all agree a 50 odd game season is too much for him, and it would be too much for an older left back like Powell. They could share the workload, allowing Herd to pick up the experience to become first choice left back the following season.

I agree. Plus I doubt that there's a more suitable role-model in the Country than Sir Chrissie.

I think our looking more solid with AB at left back had more to do with the arrival of Dorian and breaking up AB and Clarke, to be honest...

Yes, he did have errors in some games last year, but I think it is important not to look at these. Tilly said he did not expect to play last year (or not very much), and that is why - not quite ready. The positive attributes he showed were very pleasing. This is the season where he will have to show if he is going to really make it though

If Johnny doesn't get games by Christmas then I reckon there's a good chance he'll be off to one of the Championship teams that wanted him last season....

I like the idea of getting in an older LB (in a dream world Sir Chrissy) to teach lil' Johnny and to share the workload. Plus when I saw Herd play I was expecting him to get beat in the air but was suprised how well he did, he's got a spring on him.
