Breaking News Josh Coulson Signs

On the face of it, could be a good signing. A little worrying he diidn't make many appearances for Orient in the last 2 seasons.

I am also a little concerned that PB seems to be going for short term fixes. If it works great, but I am not convinced.
Over the last 2 seasons he made 55 appearances in total. That's not too bad (31 in 19/20 and 24 last season).

He did arrive from Cambridge as a legend.

He was immense for us in the National League and will have legendary status with us for getting us back in the league.

He has played loads for us back in the league over the last two seasons.

The general feel is that he has lost his pace, but was never blessed with pace anyway.

A real big character with a real big forehead. He'll score goals too.

His Dad will come and watch from the the stand.

To be honest, if you're looking for a defence to get you out of the National League, you could do a lot worse than our back 4 from the last few years who got us promoted and have now been released.

Widdowson (left back) plenty of experience.
Coulson.
Turley (centre back, pacey, hard as nails)
Ling (right back, much maligned at our place because his Dad is our Director of Football, but beyond that he is decent and got us promoted)
Alternatively Judd (right back)

well if you worried by the age of some of he players .Phil brown is bringing in .Then maybe he shoi
uld go down the tracks of the last two seasons play the kids and finish below Dover who start the season on minus 12 points .Is that what you want .

Sounds alright to me. Big characters with big foreheads is what we’ve been missing ?

@Jonny_Stokes have his legs gone or what? Can we start crucifying the poor bloke or is he a potential leader/good player to have around the place?

He’s so slow that I would have said his legs had gone when he arrived, let alone by the time he left. He has the turning circle of an oil tanker and you might as well start heading for the bogs if he gets dragged out into the channels because you’re probably about to concede a goal. He was, in short, a bit of a liability at League Two level for those reasons - which were exacerbated because we often played with James Brophy as an extremely attacking fullback on his side.

However, he was outstanding in the NL for us. The division as a whole is centred around lumping it forward in the vague direction of extremely physical strikers. And Josh Coulson loves it when the ball is in the air. He has the forehead of an Easter Island stone carving* and he enjoys putting himself about in both boxes. He’s a fantastic organiser, will put his body on the line to make blocks and a clean tackler (he tends to get booked only on the aforementioned times when he gets dragged into the channels).

I’m both a fan of his and simultaneously glad he was released. He’s had a few injuries but I don’t think he’s done at NL level. You could do a lot worse. Wish him all the best. Just don’t play an attacking fullback next to him.

*Ba-dee-ya super Joshie Coulson
Ba-Dee-ya he’s got a massive forehead
Ba-Dee-ya he always heads the ball awayyyyyyy

Do we know why he only played in those games...ie in the games he did not play in was he unavailable through injury, or, just not selected. It would be interesting to know.

Combination of both. He had a couple of injuries and then fell down the pecking order when Turley (also just been released) took his place.

Just a matter of preference to be honest.
