just got back from the game, was pretty frustrating cos we really werent direct

pros:
gower looked excellent, even though he was at fault for their second
freddy scored, looked much more confident after it
spinner was solid at centre back, perhaps more so than eagle has looked sometimes

cons:
goater was useless, couple of good flick on headers was all he provided earlier on. squandered a good chance
maher was absolutely useless in the first half, looked better in the second half but if i was the manager i would have subbed him, he needs to take a look at himself, gower and JCR are both better dead ball specialists too

my motm was gower

at least we can concentrate on the league now

I couldn't disagree with you on most of those points but I thought Prior was useless, gave away a penalty and was done for pace every few minutes. Hunt was also awful and I'd like to see Jupp in there at right back. Gower was very good apart from the second goal but Tilson has to learn to use substitues earlier in the game.
Very disappointing game.

you can't really have a go at prior for a lack of pace, usually hunt or barrett would be backing up but not always, hence he got done a couple of times

the penalty was unlucky for prior, he had to make some sort of a tackle, as we saw with the other goal if you don't make a tackle someone will just walk into the box and put it away

hunt was the worst in defence, looked good occasionally but awful at other times

tilly definitely needs to make subs earlier, he brought on lawson who didn't even get a touch of the ball.  jay smith looked alright but if tilly is going to stick with maher, then gutts will definitely be 1st choice over him

i get your point, and games like today may have been the ideal opportunity to give him a rest at least

now we are out of all cups and so every game counts

when maher hasn't played though we have looked poor in past seasons, none of our current midfields can properly cover all aspects of his game (especially in the air or as defensive cover).

Of course you can't moan at a player for a lack of pace but against a team with two very quick strikers why the fcuk was prior playing?!?
If Prior had to make a tackle he should have done it earlier, before he let the player go round him into the box!

We looked s**t hot for the first 5-10 minutes and I thought we're gonna cruise this......then it all went wrong!
Prior was left treading water as the guy went past him so he did the professional thing to do....gave away the penalty, then looked around trying to blame someone or something else, any ideas what that was?? We need a young pacy pairing at centre half the two young coloured kids for MK Dons could have taken the p**s out of Barrett and Prior if the service had been any good.
What's with Flahavan punching crosses away from ankle height with no-one near him. Any time MK had a free kick or corner on the right it looked like being a goal as Darryl has reverted to being rooted to his line again after a great start to the season.
Nobody could find a another blue shirt consistently with the ball
We watched their guy run from 1/2 way and he should have scored but obliged by getting his head in the way of the follow-up shot.
JCR - £170,000 - have seen only brief glimpses, at that money he should be running the game.
Freddy has been sussed out by opposing teams, they just crowd him out the game but no service today
Agree Gower had a good game but pointless if you give away a goal.
Maher, we always play badly without him but he was useless today delivery from set pieces is an absolute joke....everyone seems to know this and comment on it in the ground so why does he have to take every free kick and corner is it in his contract?
IMHO every team we seem to be facing is working much harder at closing down in mid-field and pressing Southend nearer their own goal

Anyway having said all that I will be there on Tuesday cheering the boys on but feel its time for a shake up as we are looking stale and short of ideas and really did not look very threatening today.....good to see Jay back he might be the catalyst once he gets a few games under his belt.

Anyway off to kick s**t out of the wife!

well i believe prior is quicker than eagle, that player had skinned hunt ages ago and got to the byline, prior left his man to try and tackle because there was no one else back in position

i blame the goal on hunt more than anyone, but penalties happen and that wasn't the biggest issue of the game, we got it back to 1-1 but still weren't direct in our play.  gray should have come on sooner, before we even scored IMO but when we did go 2-1 down there was still nothing happening on the bench

I think not.
Afraid to see Gutts and Smith will never be able to both play centre midfield so either one will have to move out to the wing (unlikely) or only one can play.

It's very simple - take off the rose tinted glasses and then you'll realise that Barrett and Eastwood are actually nothing out of the ordinary. When you are looking for scapegoats too often the targets are wrong. Other than the goal Prior had an excellent game. More than can be said for most of the rest of the team with the possible exception of JCR and *ahem* Wilson. Week in week out Barrett is outclassed and outjumped by forwards no bigger than him and would be much better at left back.

As to the thick ***** chanting "Freddy Eastwood" and "easy, easy" at 1-1 in the West, that just about somes up what most of you know about football: **** ALL!

Fortunately today was a cup game but the last 4 weeks have been a nightmare and I can't wait for the transfer window to reinvest the 25K that Freddy must be worth after the last 4 weeks displays.

You heard it here first. Give Petts a chance !

Yeah Eastwood was terrible scored one, got into 3 great scoring postions, and set up the goat for a 1 on 1,

Che Wilson had a very average performance, part of defending is about making challanges not running alongside people.

We created enough chances today to win 2 games, lets just hope we take these chances on Tues.

If it werent for Freddie we would be in Div 2 for starters! Agree he has been marked much tighter these days which is making it harder for him for he is still scoring goals. Excluding pens the last time another forward scored was Yeovil, can anyone remember that far back??? We need a decent striker along side him ( I mean a 20 goal a season man) which unfortunately we dont have.

As for Petts he is such a negative player, has he ever passed the ball forward? Spose he will bag quite a few goals from midfield...oh no he cant do that either, christ another Maher but then again Tilson has to do something as we will sink fast, at the moment I can see us matching our 8 wins in a row with 8 defeats.

It was a bad performance, i think confidence is low! What summed it all up was when we had a corner in the 92nd minute and Flavahan stayed back, why why why!!! Its a cup game get forward and have a go, there was no signal from the bench!

i couldnt understand it either - ironically Maher fell over as he took the corner so it would have been pointless in then end anyway as the ball never made the penalty box!

No not at all! Maher was useless today, i only write what i see. He needs a break and to be dropped!

Maher was pretty poor today, but drop him? You've got to be out of your mind - we'd look even worse without him. He's still the player everyone else in the team is looking to for inspiration - take him out of the team and we'd be (even more of) a shapeless, clueless mess. He's got to let the set-pieces go to someone else though - his delivery has been woefully below par for far too long now and yet he's still the first person to pick up the ball for every free-kick/corner.

I'd also like to point out that Gower wasn't at fault for the second goal - yes, he gave possesson away carelessly (who didn't at some point today?) but our defence should have dealt with it. Apart from that he was excellent and showed more effort and commitment than just about anyone else in the team.

the 2 games we played without him last season we won 3-0 so dont think he would be much of a loss
