Echo News Lampard: Sterling was wrong to compare me with Sol

Even more ridiculous considering Sol quit his coaching course early, due to him being the “brightest mind in football”.

???

See GBJ this is what Ive been trying to say. We would be silly to give up on the greatest mind in football. So, shall I put you down as a maybe for our Sol Campbell fan club ?

I dunno. How much of my time will it take up? I’m already quite deep into the Avon world, plus I’ve completed about 97% of pornhub during lockdown, so I’m kinda trying to finish that before I have to return to work.

Xnxx your mind will be blown!

There was a Twitter thread the other day about the transition of black players to managers in football and I asked on there how many black players actually prepare themselves for management by doing their coaching badges while still playing. Didn't get a response but I think it kind of illustrates the point.

I believe Anton is in the process of doing his, Coxy has made some progress, completing several levels. I think Timlin and Adam both did theirs while still playing, as did Kev Maher. So maybe this is something the powers that be ought to be exploring - are black players blind to the need to get those coaching levels under their belt while still playing so they can move into better managerial/coaching roles once they finish playing.

If that is true. I wonder if it’s because some think “ what’s the point” As they see sod all black managers and coaches? I’m not saying it’s right but maybe some are put off but the stats, and the reality

The only way to change that though, is to do so practically. The first step is the hardest in any new task or project, be you black or white!

I have heard this more than once- mentioned by a player on radio the other day. If you believe there is little or no chance of a decent job at the end of it, as you say, hardly the greatest motivation to do the courses. Needs real focus on how to address top to bottom.

That could apply equally to anyone looking at any job. Whilst there are very few 'non-white' managers in the leagues, certainly in the Prem nowadays there is is a very high proportion of non-white players. I'd suggest since a lot are from overseas they may have no particular desire to stay and manage here?

You ask the question how many black players are taking their coaching badges and it is a valid one. However I am not sure that I would interpret someone not answering the question as proof less black players are taking the qualifications, more simply that they do not know the answer.

There could be a myriad of reasons of why less black players are taking their coaching badges, if indeed that is the case.

However you are suggesting it is because black players are not aware of their importance. Black and white players are part of the same team, they train together, share the same dressing room, attend the same management meetings, will attend the same meetings on life after a playing career (if such things exist). Why would black players be less aware of the importance of coaching badges than their white counterparts?

I am sure you didn't intend it but the inference that is very much a lack of awareness on the part of black players. That it is somehow their fault.

I suspect less black players are indeed taking their coaching badges. I also suspect that it is probably when they look around they seen they see so few black managers and senior coaches and decide to pursue other avenues

Over the last 20-25 years there has been an increasing representation of black players. Yet how many football league clubs have had a black manager?

I don't know the answers but firstly there has to be recognition that there is an issue and most certainly not down to black players being blind to the importance of coaching badges.

I think that Sterling does have somewhat of a point, this country hasn't always been as open and equal as it is now so it will take time for the changes in society to be reflected in roles across the board, particularly with something like football management where those managing now were likely to have been playing at least 1 generation ago, back then the idea of a black manager was totally alien. 1 generation on those black players are becoming managers and people just aren't used to it so it will take someone to do something special to become a role model. hopefully when Raheem becomes a manager he will aspire to follow Sir Sol's shoes and win another champions league for the now dominant Southend United.

What I meant was no-one responded to my question, that's slightly different. Questions often got lost in threads on Twitter.

I think you're reading something into what I said which was absolutely not intended.

I can tell you that Sol went for an interview with a club not a million miles from us and basically took the p.... Othere candidates turned up having watched games, spotted weaknesses and had ideas of how to improve things.....Sol hadn’t bothered to look at any of the players but expected to get the job because..... He is Sol and better than any of the others.....

That doesn’t work for any of us regardless of your career...... or your racial background.

And of course, Orient weren’t willing to meet his wages.
