Can anyone recommend a good place to get new laptops. Prefer it to be an offline retailer, but not that fussed.

Want new, not second hand and something pretty high spec under a grand.

Cheers, Paul

Dell look pretty good to me. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with them?

I am thinking of buying one when I am over in the States later this year because they are much cheaper over there.

Only one place to go. www.dell.co.uk

There are simply the best when it comes to lap-tops. They have a double memory offer on at the moment as well and you can customise the machines to what you want to use them for.

Not only that but there offer of onsite support is a must (next day). I'd never buy a different brand again!

Don't forget you'll have pay Import Duty to HMCE, so in all it doesn't work out that much better.

Hmm, didnt think of DELL! Its staring me in the face - I'm typing this on a Dell Inspiron 8000 now and its a good machine, only too slow and old now...

I'll check them out, thanks Dave.

But I will be buying it while I am in America. My plan is to peel off one of the asset stickers from an old company PC and stick it to my brand new laptop thus fooling HM customs into thinking it is a company machine. (Unless they know we use IBM thinkpads as standard).

It's almost too perfect........

I also want to pick up a new guitar over there but suspect I may need a different plan for that particular item.

Problem is if they suspect it is new they will ask you to prove it was bought in the UK with receipts etc... if you can't they will still charge you duty on it.

What if a also superficially 'age' the machine. A few scratches on the case etc....?

Or try www.mesh.co.uk . They do high quality desktops and are known for their high quality components , Dell use good companents (hence the next day warrenty if you know what i mean ), but still have good reliabilty.

Novatech

Bought 2 laptops from them over the last 2 years never been a problem and prices and specs are superb!.

Would highly reccomend them
