Phil's current run is currently LLLLWDLWDL - up to 21st, same as Bobby Moore.

You're not really going to count a game against Brighton U23s are you ?

LLLLLWDLDL - as you were; equal last

I'd settle for Mr Brown getting 12 points per 10 games over the remaining 20 games of the season and that might just be enough to avoid the drop to League 2. The idea that he could get 22 or 23 points per 10 games to stand a chance of making the play-offs is challenging my powers of imagination at present, given that his average is a shade under 12 points per 10 games over the 26 games already played this season.

I remember that Dave Smith, under the old 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw system, used to divide the season into 5 x 9-match blocks with a target of 12 points per 9 matches to get promotion, with the remaining one match to make up the 46 matches as a chance to make up a 2-point shortfall or win the title. If we got, say, 11 points from the first block then he upped the target to 13 points for the next. He said it was easier for players to focus on that kind of shorter-term target.

I guess a target of 17 points per 9-match block would be about right in the current system.

Interesting chat about Shrewsbury Town from 2015-16 on page one. Did they stay up in the end? Our fortunes have certainly diverged since.

The 2015–16 season was Shrewsbury Town's 130th year in existence and their first season back in League One after gaining promotion the previous season.[3] Much of the season was spent fighting relegation, with safety only secured following the final home match of the season where despite losing to Peterborough United, same day defeats for Blackpool and Doncaster Rovers ensured another season of League One football with one game to spare.[4]
