After the thrill of last Friday's late winning goal, I thought it would be good to go back through our fairly recent history and dig out a list of last minute winners. How many of these do you remember?

Only four last minute winners in the almost 7 years since the playoff final. I suppose we withdrew heavily from the bank for that one.

The Jeroen Boere winner at Gillingham in the 92nd minute capped a remarkable finish to that game. Just 2 minutes earlier Regis Coulbault had equalised for us after Gills had led since early in the first half.
It was a rare bright spot under the dreadful Alvin Martin reign.

Loved the John Cornwell winner at home to Preston to cap a 3-2 winner back in 1990. A cracking volley from 25 yards which I still vividly remember.

The Kev Maher winner at Preston takes some beating. I can still hear the sky sports commentator screaming "pandemonium in the away end". Great scenes.

With that avatar I thought you were Stan, perhaps you are?

If that is the case I claim £5

That '97 game against Gillingham. Boere's might have been the winner, but I'm pretty sure the equaliser came in injury time as well. I wasn't there but I seem to remember Cefax taking an age to update. We were 1-0 down and all the other games had gone to full time, but ours didn't update for about 5 minutes and when it did it went from 1-0 to 1-2!

I also remember the Hartlepool game in 1985. The scoring went something like this:

43' 0-1
44' 1-1 (Cadette)
45' 1-2

90+1 2-2 (Cadette)
90+2 3-2 (Gymer)

I also remember the game for other not-so-good reasons. For some reason the East black section was given to the away fans. So when we took our usual seats we were sitting in amongst them. Their racism towards Richard Cadette was appalling. Every time he touched the ball they were all making monkey noises. It was a long time ago, but I remember that the atmosphere was horrible, nearly all the away fans' chants were offensive in some way.

What was more gutting was that in the Evening Echo match report they mentioned how great the away support was and how they got behind their team. My dad, who was a local councillor at the time, wrote to the Echo to put them right. As far as I'm aware his letter was published.

Lincoln I am surprised you didn't mention the Mike Marsh winner v Ipswich, nor the Adam B winner at Northampton, a goal made by our old friend Harry Wrapp! Happy, happy days. And, whisper it quietly, they could, be returning....

As good as Marsh's last minute winner was, the fact that years later he told me at Ormskirk snooker club that he didn't enjoy playing for us made me leave it out of my summary!

You're right it did.....Coulbault 90, Boere 92

Some of those I have no recollection of despite being at the game but that Barrington Belgrave winner against York I remember well despite not being there. I was in Malaysia at the time and popped into an Internet cafe to try and find the result. Most of the other games had full time results but this game was showing as still playing - and goalless. The Internet cafe was due to shut at 5pm GMT and still there was no result. Luckily the manager was a football fan, Ajax for what it was worth, and we get chatting and I explained my predicament and that the result was due in any second and otherwise I wouldn’t find out the result for a couple of days (how times have changed). He relented and agreed to stay open until the result came in but still no result was in. Nearly every other game had long since finished when up on the vidiprinter popped goal Southend (Belgrave 90).

Disappointed to hear that.
So was I.
That snooker club proves to be a popular haunt for a few of our ex players. I also met and chatted with both Mark McNally (after he had left us) as well as the legendary Gary "Psycho" Bennett.
Bennett was playing on the table next to me and it took me a while to work out who he was.
His main memory (other than scoring twice against Spurs in the League cup match at Roots Hall in 1989) was of Vic Jobson climbing into the bath with all the players after a match. It wasn't a pleasant sight he said!

I know this is for winners but will always remember Christophe's goal saving a draw against Col U. Had absolutely no idea who'd scored or how it went in until after the game!
