Question League 2 best away day?

Stipulating League Two (Fourth Division) reduces my already extremely limited away day experiences. Every away game is unique with nearly always something to remember...........even if it's something you'd rather forget! There are two stand out trips for me.

Swindon: Cup Third Round January 1969

Persuaded three friends, (who were not particularly interested in football) one being Bob Stannard (ex Southend School of Art, whom I've sadly lost contact with). We drove down towards Wiltshire on, IIRC, a nice day weatherwise, stopping off at an excellent country pub. There then followed a visit to Stonehenge (when you could actually walk amongst the stones.......still got the photos to prove it). On to the County Ground and as a Division Four side, we weren't given a hope in hell, Swindon were tearing Division Three apart and, I think, undefeated at home. Came away with a totally unexpected 0-2 win and I've still got the Pink paper carrying a report, which hit the streets amazingly quickly after the game.

Portsmouth: League Two, Tuesday26th November 2013

Astonishing evening even before the game got underway. Our coach driver got wind of problems with the tunnel leading to Portsmouth and then led us on a magical mystery tour through the Surrey and Hampshire countryside. Down tiny country lanes and through small villages at a frightening speed, whilst the other coaches remained stuck in the traffic, waiting for the tunnel to re-open. We got to Portsmouth with enough time to search out a pint of Gales before heading to the ground. I don't think the rest of our supporters arrived until half-time. The game proved to be as exciting as the trip down. We'd hardly got in our seats before Barcham had given Pompey the lead with a wonder strike. Lucky to keep it to one goal in the first-half and then Cauley Woodrow got a straight red for an alleged elbowing in the 66th minute. However, with late goals from Atkinson and Corr we pulled off an unlikely win. The return trip was less dramatic but everyone was buzzing......that was some night!

For me it's got to be the old MK Dons hockey stadium, it was a lovely sunny day, no rain or wind at all and we lost two nil (I think).

Anyone who gives MK money should be ashamed....There are no excuses.

Horrendous journey. We were just getting in to the town when Barcham scored. For a fleeting moment we may have considered turning around ?. We didn’t.

What a game.

Two goals in 6 crazy minutes after Woodrow got sent off was one of the best passages of a game I can remember.

What an atmosphere. Bloody brilliant.

Our last trip away at Sunderland was a very good trip and weekend away, if we ever get them away again I’d be going for sure:Thumbs up:

March 1972 (promotion year) at Darlington. Coach (Brothers Grimm?) dropped us off in town, we invaded some town centre pub where the landlord moved us into his back room to keep us all away from the locals (and probably to allow him to keep some customers). Unfortunately said back room was the headquarters of the local Hells Angels chapter. Some bright spark tore down their Union Jack from the wall. 5 minutes later the Angels walked in! Quite a few tense moments followed.... I seem to remember that the flag was discovered up the chimney.
We eventually got away, none the worse for our "discussions" and went to Feethams where we won 3-2 (no doubt someone can tell me the scorers as I can't remember!)
We were then awarded a police escort back to the coach parked some way off and the police motorbikes then escorted the coach back on to the A1.
Happy days!

What a day that was, we must have been on the same coach. Remember the rowdy santa clauses on the way out and the second crack at those winding roads after a dodgy burger on the way back to Southend left me in the toilet for the most of the way home on the coach.

Goalscorers were, Big Bill(Garner) and Little Billy(Best) + Maurice Peddelty with an own goal.

That Portsmouth journey will remain long in the mind!
How he got that coach round some of those bends....only he knows.
The game wasn’t too bad either ?
