So we are a little over 14 hours away from the Essex derby. Ok, to most it's not the most glamorous of derbies, hell most footy fans wouldn't even look twice at this fixture and think "Big game" but you know what, I couldn't give a toss...
To me, this is the biggest game in our football calendar, this is the game where the night before (tonight!) I will be laying in bed, playing out goal scoring scenarios in my head for hours. A night where I will be playing "throw the paper ball in the bin" and believing whatever the outcome of this game, will be the result tomorrow. A night where I'll be looking up at the stars and praying that someone up there will deliver the right result for us tomorrow.
So If you do something this evening and pre-match tomorrow, that makes you think "maybe I'm a bit weird" dont worry, it's just us, the real football fans getting ready for the biggest battle in "our" football world.
Screw the Prem and its overpaid pre-madonna players. Give me a packed Roots Hall on a cold Saturday lunch-time, against "the enemy" any day.
Live for this moment people, it comes but twice a year if we are lucky. So don your Southend shirt with pride in the morning. Dust off that flag that lurks behind the wardrobe. Stand tall and stand proud, for we must unite as one at 1pm tomorrow and help our heroes defeat the enemy that is Colchester United.
Every single one of you has a duty to the club and to your fellow fans. So sing loud and sing proud, for there can truly only be "One Team in Essex"
