Liam Dickinson Let Go

Can anyone shed any light on reports in the Daily Mirror that Dickinson is leaving because the club can't afford to extend his contract?

Yeah, already have, but was hoping that someone close to the club or player might have something a bit more concrete to share than just speculative conversation.

I figured that, if someone did have some decent news, it deserved its own thread.

Oh thanks - call me an old fart but that seems to cut across the point of having separate topics for discussion. Oh well, such is life.

Not a big fan of Dickinson but he has been okay at times and at other times the team has been playing so poorly that it would be difficult for even David Crown to impress. All in all, I wonder if there be a 'shake up, in the striker department.

I would like to keep him too but not as a target man. For me, and he is honest about being second rate with his head, he should play alongside or just behind a target man and use his feet more, not his head.

He had 11 or 12 before his injury so I'd expect 20 a season from him

Probably would come close. He has 12 goals in 33 games up until injured and missed 13 games including the semi finals so on that ratio would have scored 4 or 5 more to take him 16 or 17.

Eh? So we are now deducting goals from our players to make their stats look worse then they are!

Dickenson's scoring rate last season was a very reasonable 0.36 goals a game and above his career average. Harris and Benyon will struggle to match that stat next season.

I was going to make the point thst there were a few penalties in there - boosts the goal tally but you still have to put the ball in the net. And I agree that he is a better player with the ball at his feet but I still don't rank him as the 1st choice striker for the team - but a good man to have on the bench .....

Totally agree. Attitude has been poor at times too (not Moshni poor but poor all the same).

Didn't Freddy take our penalties before? Do we deduct them from his record for us?

No but Freddy was different gravy. Dicko has done well but he doesnt get enough shots away for me. I think someone put the stat up he averaged about 2 shots a game. Never felt confident he would find the net in a one on one. He is a good team player but think maybe Luggy wants a proper targetman like a fit Corr or someone like Harrold/Midson.
