Simple poll - if it was allowed to show games on the telly or over the Internet at 3pm on a Saturday, would you watch it from the comfort of your sofa rather than the vaunted seats of Roots Hall?

Personally as a semi-exile I'd like the option of being able to watch live games as I can't justify the trip down more than a few times a year, but would I pay £10 to watch it currently? Doubtful.

As I just put on another thread, one of the reasons they do not allow broadcasting on Saturdays between 3 and 5 is to protect club income. I follow is what £10 that is less than an adult ticket so smaller clubs could possibly lose income.

But for many the attendence is more than the 90 minutes of football. It's meeting up with mates, a pre and post match drink, the chance to shout, cheer & sing. You can't do that from your sofa.

If I have the chance to go and am able to I would pick that over watching on TV. Not overly a fan of watching football on TV. Only really make the effort if it’s Southend and if it’s not then I very rarely concentrate. Nothing beats the sounds of the moaning old gits at Roots Hall, the groans of despair as we let a howler in, Miss a sitter or get denied a stone wall pen. The smell of those abominations they call burgers and the atmosphere and pandemonium when celebrating the rare occasion we score a goal!

You just don’t get that from watching on TV.

As I now live in Scotland I do miss the atmosphere of Roots Hall........and the fish and chips on the way to the ground.
Occasionally I go and watch Falkirk who were relegated last season there is something very special about lower league football.
You cannot beat the atmosphere and passion of live games.
Ironically Falkirk is a 3 sided fairly new stadium which does not seem to affect the atmosphere at games ! ! !

If I was still local, I would be going in person, rather than watching on TV.

There is a but though. If we were actually not utter garbage, I would of returned to more than the 2 games I have seen at Roots Hall this year (Blackpool and Peterborough) rather than watching on ifollow, but its been painful enough just on TV.

When im back to southend to visit family and friends i try to organise it around a game. Other then that i have zero chance. So in my case they are losing money every saturday.

I also know that some people especially in the winter months cant go as they are getting too old to visit or have other health problems.

Bottom line is you cant beat a live game but if you cant go there is no choice and revenue is lost.

That said i imagine it could affect away support... but normally the people that go to away games are so hardcore that they would rather watch it live.

Only way of really knowing is to try it i guess? I dont knoe the stats but have midweek game attendances suffered because of ifollow?

I don't think it will happen but it'd be nice if location tracking could be utilised to tell if you live more than 90 minutes from the ground, if you do then you could be given the option to stream the match at home (since you realistically won't be attending every match), otherwise you can only get audio. Sure people could spoof their location to circumvent it but that already happens since every match is available abroad.

Sorry bu5 just to clarify I was saying one of the reasons for not allowing Saturday 3pm kickoffs to be shown was to protect club income, i wasn't referring to what people do on match days. however, what you say is another good reason not to screen them

I have a season card but I'm able to watch every game home and away either on my phone or via my firestick.

I prefer to be at the match but have to work some games and it means I get to watch the footy. It's pretty cheap too.

with it being an 8 hour round trip with a 2 hour game in the middle my attendances at the hall are few and far between, in fact I've not made it down this season and I really can't see it happening by the end of the season. It's just not worth the effort for the disappointment, I'll just wait until we play up north to watch us lose

For the elderly, the infirm, this would be a fantastic thing - if it were allowed. Would mean my dad could still enjoy games throughout the season, the cold months are very difficult for him.

BeerMat the person who always votes on the least likely must be the local who would rather watch on his porn ridden laptop, check out who votes for the least likely to play in all recent pre match threads team vote.

No much prefer to be at the game, experience the highs (I remember some, I think) and the lows, unless there are a stream of people walking in front of my tv with someone shouting "go down your own row" I doubt I'd feel at home anyway

If a game is “live“ on SKY I watch it rather than a 5 hour round trip. The big thing for me is knowing what happens when it happens. Ifollow does what it says - the stream both pictures and commentary follow about 50 seconds after the live action. So when either the commentary or picture show Southend attacking and a SKY Sports Centre notification tells me at the same time that Bolton have scored 50 seconds before the commentary I wonder why I’m bothering to listen.

Thus at the moment attendance at the game still wins hands down.

Whilst watching I have been know to shout 'sitdown' at the wife, just to make it more authentic...

If a game is sold out, then 3pm EFL Saturday kick offs should be allowed to be shown on ifollow in th UK.
That obviously wouldn't happen to us much though!
