Are any of our youngsters going out on loan this year or is Covid putting paid to that?

Usually we send a load of players out to clubs like Harlow, Canvey and Great Wakering in the Isthmian League in the 8th tier of English football. Before everyone cries 'no they're playing in the first team' the players who would usually be going out on loan would be the likes of the third year scholars like Sam Brogan, Freddy Eastwood Jr, Callum Taylor and Reiss Chandler who are nowhere near the first team squad and maybe some of the more advanced second year scholars like Oli Coker and Jimmy Wallace (although this may be later in the season). We also have the likes of Matt Rush (fallen behind first year scholar Kenny Coker in the pecking order), Miles Mitchell-Nelson and Eren Kinali (unregistered due to the embargo) who I'd expect to go to a Conference South side and then the likes of O'Shane Stewart, Jon Benton and Ide Osimeh who could be anywhere between to the two (so let's say Isthmian Premier?).

I presume the issue with covid is that these are part-time clubs and that these players would usually train with them a couple of times during the week and then be at Boots and Laces the rest of the time, so be mixing bubbles.

I understand the plan is still to send younger players out on loan - those identified would be potential candidates - especially with the paucity of competitive U23s matches this season. Craig Fagan did say after the Hullbridge Sports friendly: "We’re going to try to get as many people out on loan as possible, but we can’t send too many out because a lot of U23s are with the first team."

There are different bubbles due to Covid regulations, which restricts movement of players within the first-team, U23s and U18s squads, and that could potentially have ramifications for players going out on loan or work experience as fringe players in the first-team squad (Matt Rush, Kenny Coker and Harry Seaden, for example) aren't currently appearing for the U23s or the U18s due to being part of the first-team bubble.

I swear sometimes the club forgets to do things until I remind them on here.

Third year scholars Callum Taylor and Issa Mpenga have joined Harlow on work experience until the end of April. Terrell Egbri, Miles Mitchell-Nelson and Matt Rush were all there early last season and ended up in the first team. Reiss Chandler was also briefly there earlier this year before the season was curtailed. Taylor is an 18yo keeper who you may remember from a brief appearance as sub against Coventry last year. Mpenga is a chunky forward who, from his photos, looks as if he'd be difficult to shove off the ball as he looks a unit.

Harry Kyprianou has Bromley on loan. Michael Klass warmed the bench for them for most of last season. Kyprianou needs no introduction. Not sure how long this is for. He's out of contract at the end of the season and has been given permission to play in the FA Cup.
These were the first two clubs to take players on loan from us last season as well.

Who is Issa Mpenga? Genuinely don't think I've ever seen / heard of him

Level 5
Bromley were in FA Cup action at Sutton United. No FA Cup glory for Sutton Utd this year as Bromley beat them 1-0 with Harry Kyprianou playing the 90 minutes. It was his first clean sheet he's been part of since he scored in the 2018 Checkatrade victory against Southampton.

Level 8
Third year scholar Issa Mpenga came on for Harlow in the 77th minute of their Isthmian South Central clash with Ashford Town. They conceded the winner 12 minutes later with Ashford winning 2-1. No Callum Taylor for the Hawks, but they did have former academy team-mate Ahmet Biler lining up for them.

Callum Taylor made his debut for Harlow at Ware last night. It could have gone better as he had to pick the ball out of the back of the net six times.

No Mpenga for the Hawks whose only goal came in the 87th minute.

Afer appearing in the FA Cup, Harry Kyprianou made his Conference debut for Bromley up against Mark Molesley's former team Weymouth. Harry played the full 90 minutes but apparently missed a 4 on 1!

Bromley lost 3-2.

Since the last update:

In the national league Harry Kyprianou played in a 2-1 home defeat to Eastleigh and was then subbed after 66 minutes in their FA Cup game at home to Yeovil. It was scoreless at the time but Bromley conceded a 120th minute heartbreaker to go out.

Callum Taylor was back in goal for Harlow after conceding 6 and only conceded the one in a 1-0 home defeat to Chalfont St Peter the other week. No Mpenga again. I think Isthmian South Central isn't classified as elite so no games for a while.

Matt Rush is the latest Shrimper out on loan.

He joined National League South Tonbridge on a 4 week loan and made his debut Tuesday night as a 73rd minute sub away at league leaders Dartford. Dartford scored the only goal of the game shortly afterwards. I reckon this is a good level for him to be playing at - he'll be playing the likes of Chelsmford, Braintree and Billericay.

I don't know if Callum Taylor and Mpenga are still at Harlow - the Isthmian League seems to have been suspended so I suspect they are back at Boots and Laces full time.

Harry Kyprianou's loan spell has of course ended. He started 2 Conference games at left-back and came on as a sub for 4 minutes in another - in which he was playing LB behind latest Shrimper Reeco Hackett-Fairchild on the LW for Bromley.

Always said it, Matt will score goals but not at SUFC I think he and a few players will soon be moving to pastures new

This thread had gone into hibernation with lockdown stifling football below the conference however with Richard Taylor's loan move to Barnet it has become relevant once more.

Barnet are having a terrible time - with just 12 points all season they are one of the few clubs in the country with a worst record than ourselves. Things have got so bad that they are reduced to having OBL favourite Anthony Wordsworth stroll around in midfield and Keith Dublin tribute act Jerome Binnom-Williams in defence. Bad times indeed.

Their previous game had seen them ship five to 20th (out of 23 - there's no Bury) placed King's Lynn - with Wordsworth being subbed with 10 minutes to go (injured again or hauled off?). The game before that saw former Blues star Kane Ferdinand better Wordsworth in midfield and ex-loanee and contortionist Jamar Loza score as the Bees lost comfortably to 17th placed Woking.

It must have therefore been with trepidation that they faced the long visit to 3rd place Hartlepool, who went into the weekend as the second highest scorers at home, live on national TV (BT Sport - did anyone watch it?).

In the end Barnet didn't score but, without Binnom-Williams and Wordsworth, conceded just the one goal - only the second time in then Tim Flowers' era that they've conceded fewer than 2 in a game. Richard Taylor played the full 90 minutes. You may not be surprised to find that he managed to get booked. His 7th booking in 17 appearances this season.

No game Saturday for Barnet but they played last Tuesday in a game they went 2-0 down in 13 minutes, only to pull one back within a minute. At 2-1 it was tightly poised but they had a man sent off after 33 minutes for stopping a quick free-kick and they conceded two further goals second half. Richard Taylor managed to play the full 90 minutes without being booked.

They're back in action again tomorrow.

Richard Taylor played his 3rd game for Barnet in their 2-0 home defeat on 9th March. Anthony Wordsworth also started for Barnet that game. Unlike Wordsworth, Taylor managed to last the full 90 minutes, Taylor also managed to not get booked for the second game in a row. Unfortunately Barnet lost 2-0, the 10th and final defeat of the Tim Flowers era, an era that lasted 11 games (and you thought we were bad).

Paul Fairclough is now caretaker boss and for his first game back on Saturday he dropped Richard Taylor to the bench, presumably in favour of ex-loanee Jerome Binnom-Williams. A Wordsworthless Barnet managed to draw 2-2 for their first away point since October, helped by Bromley conceding a penalty and having a man sent off in the 12th minute. Richard Taylor didn't get booked in this game either, a feat rendered less impressive when I tell you he didn't get on the pitch either. Barnet play at Stockport tomorrow, one of three matches before his loan is due to expire unless extended.
