Loanee watch 2022-23

With Southend playing away tonight, I got the opportunity to watch Oli Coker play for Averley away to one of my old clubs Canvey Island.

It was a poor first half with very little opportunities for both sides until Averley took the lead just before half time. A good free kick delivery from Coker caused the Canvey defense all sorts of problems and the ball was bundled in from close range.

A much better second half with both teams playing some good football. Averley went close to a second when Coker's close range effort was well saved and from the resulting corner, again Coker put in an excellent delivery to find a team mate unmarked with a deep ball to the far post, which the keeper did well to save again.

Eventually Averley took a two goal lead with Aileru running onto a flicked header and slotting home well his second of the game.

A persistent Canvey pulled one back with two minutes remaining, with a brilliant half volley by Kouassi after a deep cross. Then deep into injury team, Canvey equalised with a superb long range strike by Hubble into the top corner to finish the game 2-2.
The result ensured both sides qualified for the play offs, and meet each other next Wednesday.

A good performance by Coker, showed some nice touches, put in plenty of running, contributing to a goal and gave a good account of himself.

I had a quick look at the history of Aveley on wikipaedia. I see they won their division in 1951 but were not promoted. Then two years later they finished ninth and were promoted....

How did that work I wonder?

Oli Coker was in action for Aveley on Tuesday - see @Sensei Phil ’s match report above

Isthmian North

With a wet month having put a spanner in the works there are a lot of games to catch up on for some teams. East Thurrock ended up in action Monday night and Max Fiddes came on for them after just 38 minutes of their game v Felixstowe. The score was still goalless but they fell behind early second half before a late equaliser earnt them an away point against their high flying opposition.

They were back in action again Wednesday against Basildon and this time Max was in the starting lineup. The first year scholar played 75 minutes before departing. Basildon scored the only goal of the game immediately afterwards.

Southern Combined Counties League
Fin Purcell was in goal for Chalfont St Peter as they took on Wokingham and Emmbrook. Chalfont went 1 up midway through the half from the spot but their lead lasted 8 minutes. It finished one a piece.

Go to Great Wakering when Blues are away or not playing, we have 3 loanees, Jacob Bland , Ibrahim Kamala and Omari Williams. All three are hard working and Ibraham scored a goal today in our victory which would probably broken the net !! To me and others Jacob Bland is the stand out like Jaydon Crowhurst was last season. Great learning experience for our young players and great for non league football.

NLS
Jaden Crowhurst made a rare appearance for Hampton and Richmond as they traveled to Concord. Concord ran out 2-0 winners with goals at the end of each half.

Jack Wood started for Tonbridge at Chippenham. After a spell of 6 goals in 4 starts and 2 sub appearances he seems to have cooled down again and this was a 3rd consecutive goalless game for him. He fired over a couple of times before Tonbridge took the lead on 26 minutes. That lead lasted 4 minutes. Chippenham took the lead on 56 minutes when a Harvey Bradbury, son of L1 title winner Lee Bradbuy, freekick sailed into the net. Tonbridge equalised in the 74th and Jack might have won it at the death but shot wide.

Oli Coker was only on the bench (rested for the playoffs?) as Aveley traveled to Donkey Lane to play Enfield. Aveley won 2-1 and Coker wasn’t required. They go to Canvey on Wednesday in the playoffs.

Isthmian North

It was the final day of the regular season in the Isthmian North with some huge matches.

Louie Arrowsmith was on the bench for Tilly’s Heybridge and didn’t come on. Heybridge clinched a playoff spot with a 1-0 win at Felixstowe, to finish 3 points above them (and with an inferior goal difference).

Max Fiddes started for midtable East Thurrock at 3rd placed Lowestoft. He was subbed on 66 minutes with the Rocks trailing 1-0 from the spot. Lowestoft added a late second to seal a 2-0 win.

Jacob Bland and goalscorer Ibrahim Kamara started and Omari Williams came on as a 68th minute sub for Great Wakering as @Steve Giles reports.

Whilst second placed Sudbury had nothing to play for (Hashtag having already claimed the title) Wakering did. Their 2-1 victory (and Tilbury’s 1-0 defeat) relegated Tilbury on goals scored - goal difference being identical - and let Wakering fight another day in the relegation playoffs. The Blues youths have played a big part in Wakering’s turn around: Wakering had just 12 points from 25 games when Ibrahim Kamara made his first start, Jacob Bland joined the following week and the duo helped them to 15 points from their final 13 games to escape automatic relegation.

Fin Purcell kept what could be a vital clean sheet as Chalfont St Peter beat Spelthorne Sports 1-0 to leave them 18th (of 20 teams).

NLS

Jaden Crowhurst played in Hampton and Richmond’s 3-0 defeat at Welling. It was goalless until the break when Hampton made a triple substitution. That doesn’t seem to have gone too well, although Hampton missed a second half penalty.

Jack Wood was subbed after an hour for Tonbridge at Farnborough with Tonbridge 1 down but they later came back to win 2-1 with 2 goals after Lewis Gard’s introduction as sub with 11 minutes left. First half both sides missed penalties.

Isthmian North Playoffs
Louie Arrowsmith was on the bench as Tilly’s Heybridge Swifts won their playoff semifinal at Lowestoft 2-0. They face Sudbury on Saturday in the final.

Fin Purcell was in goal as Chalfont St Peter clinched safety with a 3-2 win at Harefield United. It sounds like he had a good game.

NLS - it was the final game of the NLS regular season and Jack Wood played 75 minutes as Tonbridge finished their season against Cheshunt. Tonbridge took the lead on the stroke of half-time. It should have been 2 nil early second half

Fortunately that wasn’t costly and it ended 1-0.

Ex-Shrimper Lewis Gard was the Angel’s Player of the Year. Jack Wood was amongst those pipped in the goal of the season award. Tonbridge finished a creditable 4 points off the play off places.

Jaden Crowhurst was on the bench for Hampton and Richmond but not used as they finished with a creditable 0-0 at home to second place Dartford. Hampton finished 6 points safe, in part to the efforts of Tommy Davis earlier in the season.

Isthmian Prem
Oli Coker’s cross that went diverted in was the only goal as Aveley achieved successive promotions by winning their playoff final against Hornchurch. Jon Benton was with them last season and this year Oli Coker played a pivotal role in their success. They’ll be in the NLS next year, just one division below us.

Isthmian North

Great Wakering were relegated to the Essex Senior League (I think) as they lost 5-0 to Quorn. Ibrahim Kamara and Jacob Bland started for Rovers but they fell behind after just 9 minutes. They then conceded every 10 minutes to leave them 4-0 down at the break. Omari Williams came on as sub after 56 minutes. Quorn grabbed a fifth and final goal on 79 minutes.

At the other end of the table Louie Arrowsmith was on the bench for Tilly’s Swifts in their playoff clash v AFC Sudbury. He’s been unable to get back in the side after injury as Tilly never likes to change a team doing well but he came on after 40 minutes. After a goalless 90 minutes it went to extra time but Sudbury prevailed in extra time.

Commiserations to Wakering (particularly after their recovery to make the relegation playoffs) and Heybridge but congratulations to Aveley on their promotion and keeping it 3 Essex sides in the NLS after Concord’s relegation.
