Loanee watch 2022-23

No Benton for Braintree - his loan had another couple of weeks to run so he may have been recalled with Mooney’s injury. In his absence they drew 0-0 with Oxford City.

Jack Wood made his second start for Tonbridge. They started sharply taking a first minute lead. Second half didn’t start so well as it this time took them 3 minutes to score. Jack Wood then opened his Tonbridge account just past the hour mark with “a lovely finish”. Tonbridge then cruised to a 3-0 win to lift them above their visitors to 9th, a point outside the play-offs and two points behind Braintree in 5th.

Isthmian North
Despite being sent off at the weekend Louie Arrowsmith was in the Heybridge side that took on 16th placed Wroxham. Heybridge took a 2nd minute lead but their hosts equalised second half to deprive Tilly’s men of 2 points. Heybridge remain 3rd and miss the chance to draw level with Hashtag in 2nd.

I remember the football department/coaching staff raved about Wood when he arrived and initially he was in and about the team. Hopefully his loan spell will give him a lot of confidence and game time as he could be just the sort of player we need.

NLS
Braintree are on BT Sport tomorrow for their game v Dulwich Hamlet.

Jack Wood had a day to forget as Tonbridge lost 5-0 at Weymouth. They fell behind halfway through the first half and were 5 down by 52minutes.

Isthmian North
Louie Arrowsmith was suspended after his red card last week. In his absence they lost 3-1 to Stowmarket who leapfrog over them into 3rd.

Luke Reeve’s Tilbury were postponed.

Louie Arrowsmith was one of the few to beat the freeze. Heybridge took on Hungerford in the Trophy. They took a 32nd minute lead but their opponents, two divisions higher but bottom of the NL South, equalised on 63 minutes. It went to penalties where Heybridge missed one and Hungerford didn’t.

@tia how did he do? He was the No.3.

He was ok to be fair.Hungerford are only a level below us but are really struggling and we're shocking first half better in second. But he was decent and I think Tilly is a good manager to help develop out. youngsters.

Louie Arrowsmith was in the Heybridge side that lost 1-0 at Bury Town. The only goal of the game came on 76 minutes. Their opponents move up to 8th with Heybridge on 4th and having played more games than their opponents.

NL South
Jon Benton was on the bench for Braintree’s Essex derby v Chelmsford. With Braintree trailing 1-0 he was introduced on 59 minutes and into the book by 65 minutes. Chelmsford wrapped it up with a second on 77 minutes. It finished 2-0.

Jack Wood started alongside Lewis Gard for Tonbridge against a Welling side captained by James Dunne. Wood had a shot just wide from the edge of the area just before Welling took the lead against the run of play. That proved to be the only goal of the game.

Isthmian North
Luke Reeve played in Tilbury’s home defeat against East Thurrock. Tilbury found themselves 2 down by half-time. Tilbury fought back and a penalty just past the hour mark halved the deficit but there was no more goals. Tilbury remain 15th whilst their visitors are up to 6th.

Louie Arrowsmith was in action as Heybridge hosted Maldon, who included former Blue Harry Phillips who made his debut. The only goal came on 70 minutes in a disappointing defeat for Tilly’s men, who drop to fifth whilst their opponents move up to 17th.

Four games and 4 defeats for our loanees.

Jon Benton was restored to the Braintree starting line-up for their game v Chippenham. He was subbed on 65 minutes with them trailing 1-0.

The Irons equalised shortly afterwards before being reduced to 10 men on 78 minutes. They managed to hold on against their struggling visitors who remain in the relegation spots despite that point. Braintree are 3 points off the play-off places with a game in hand.

Deja vu as one again Jack Wood started alongside Lewis Gard for Tonbridge against a Welling side captained by James Dunne and Jon Benton was on the bench for Braintree in the Essex derby v Chelmsford.

As on Boxing Day Tonbridge lost to Welling This time though Tonbridge equalised (through ex-Shrimper Lewis Gard) but a goal on the stroke of half-time condemned them to a 2-1 defeat. Jack Wood seemed to be involved a bit with a shot wide, a shot just over and the occasional piece of nice link up play.

Jon Benton came on on the hour with the game already 2-2 but wasn’t able to help Braintree to the victory but the draw was an improvement on their Boxing Day result.

Elsewhere in the NLS Tommy Davis was back at Hampton and Richmond for a second stint and started their game v Worthing. This one finished 0-0 as he helped them keep a clean sheet having conceded 4 in the reverse fixture and not kept one since the first half of November. I think the Beavers now have kept 6 clean sheets in Tommy’s dozen appearances but only one in their other 14 games so well played Tommy.

The Isthmian North were in action today. No Luke Reeve for Tilbury but Louie Arrowsmith played in Heybridge’s 1-0 win v Great Wakering. Tilly’s men took a first half lead and that was all they needed against their struggling hosts (for whom ex-teammate Tayo Adedoja was a second half sub).

Anyone go along?

Yes, went to the game. Heybridge goal was a header from a corner. Heybridge deserved the win although GWR gave it a go in the second half. I was slightly disappointed with Heybridge Swifts and have seen stronger GWR teams. The gate was larger than usual which brings in much needed income for the village club who do really well to compete at this level. Louis Arrowsmith was one of the better players on show although probably wouldn't be near the first team at Southend.

Oli Coker who was on the bench Saturday has joined Aveley on loan for a month. They are in the Isthmian Prem so probably a level lower than Kev would have preferred. He played at this level last year with East Thurrock (whilst Benton was a level lower helping Aveley get promoted).

I’d imagine he needs the game time as there doesn’t seem to have been a B team game for some time.
