Official Match Thread Luton Town vs Southend Utd, Checkatrade Trophy Round 2

If these are Luton's reserves I can see Theo's pace causing plenty of problems and against weak opposition he'll hopefully get a confidence boosting goal.

We didn't cover ourselves in accurate predictions in the pre match poll did we? But there you go, the side has been announced, most are agog (good word that) and chances are we will go out and give them a good shoeing because none of us are expecting anything. At least it will make for a short post match thread.

Agreed, but I'm not sure how many of those fit the other criteria.

I admire what he's doing. Could be one of the reasons why they are doing well.

You have to remember they don’t run a 23s so effectively all their players are “first team”

I am rather glad we are fielding a strong side. We are definitely not playing 5 at the back. Would imagine the 2 wing backs will be playing well forward, when the oppostion allow and providing plenty of width. Sounds a good selection to me.

First team is defined as anyone that played the last match, will play the next match, has played 40 or more career pro matches or is in the top 10 for season appearances in the squad. You can't get around it just by saying they don't play for the u23s. You do however only need 4 first team players (excluding the keeper) so it's not hard to meet the quota.

Yep, that's my understanding too.

Yeah I realise that! I wasn’t justifying their selection I just pointing out they don’t have a 23s so their whole squad needs to be of a level to be used!

I’m sure 4 players qualify through those rules
