It's nice to see stuff going our way for once. Through the wonders of editing you don't get to see the first saved penalty, just the retaken one. Maybe the ref has shares in the Video Co? Who knows, and actually, who cares.

How can that goal possibly be given to McLaughlin? It totally changed direction!!

Watching them highlights, surely the Luton player was in an offside position when he took that shot! That should never have stood...

It was similar to their first goal in the league game. We head out, not in the best area but far enough. Then we don't close down with enough conviction.

There was some good defending by us yesterday. The first chance they show, the Luton lad actually won the header but Moore never gave up on it and blocked it with his head

The phantom penalty can be seen on the 10-minute highlights at www.southendunited.co.uk/ifollow (free to watch, but you have to register). Think the Luton player was pretty lucky to be given a second chance!

Dru's touch at 0:41 was absolute quality, but was described on the radio as a heavy touch!

There is a simple rule on deflections and awarding goals. If the original shot was on target you get the gaol- even if then takes 15 outrageous deflections. Seems far enough as you have to have an objective measure.

A few things I really liked there. That block at the start from Moore, fantastic. Dru's shot. Hendrie's shot. Oxley coming out so fast with a perfect tackle, even passed to our player. Got to say, a great goal by Luton. Don't shoot from there McLaughlin.....Oh hold on! The Oxley penalty save, brilliant. McCoulsky not bottling it.

The rule about deflections is a good one. Fortune favours the brave and all that.

Likewise if a player shoots at goal and it bounces back of the woodwork and hits the keeper (Wycombe at Wembley) I don't think that should be an own goal.

There's a thin line with the McLaughlin goal because it may have been creeping in but on the other hand, if it had inadvertently struck a Southend player like that you can bet your life he would be claiming it and chances are he'd be awarded the goal.

In the case of Bentley, that's a definite own goal because the shot wasn't on target and would have bounced away in the opposite direction had it not hit Bentley on the way out.
