at work in town friday- whats the latest i can get away for the 96 mile dash to Cheltenham -

anyone know how bads the traffic is leaving on the A40 and around Oxford ?

its not good, i would even consider m4 to j15 and take the a419 / a417 - longer but much clearer

DONT go near oxford after 3 pm it gets gridlocked. m25 sth m4 to swindon then follow Cirencester/ Cheltenham signs, it dual carridge way all through to Cheltenham. I do it in transit van in about 2.5 hrs from Sthend tesco's.

would personally go m25 nth, sth is 10 miles longer and you have to do dartford bridge and often hit traffic at the widened part, if you do go south useful diversion is to take m3 and head to bracknell and on to m4 at jct 10, cuts the corner and the traffic.

2 1/2 hrs in atransit is good going!

yeah i would go north aswell although m25 on a fri afternoon round from m1 to m4 is a nightmare generally. maybe just take a good book....

2 1/2 hours in a transit is indeed good going....unless its a white one in which case its pretty slow...lol

Hockley to Cheltenham Univ via Oxford in the skoda mobile 2 hrs 20 mins

just ask mcnasty about my driving skills:thump:

I have just bought a SatNav on Ebay from a "Mcnasty".....it came with maps provided by Fred and Ozzy....only £5...I thought it was a bargain...may use it on Friday....

The M25 south route according to AA routeplanner is approx 172 miles, now the more direct route of M25 (north), M40, A40 via Oxford is 145 miles (both routes based on SUFC to CTFC).

I would listen out for travel reports & check Traffic England website just before you leave out. If you are leaving out in plenty of time there is no need to go the longer route. Is anyone really going to leave Southend at 5:15pm hoping to get to Cheltenham in 2 hours 27 mins 30 seconds:confused:
