Mascots

Quote[/b] (Xàbia Shrimper @ Aug. 21 2005,12:25)]Ah yes! The misnomer of the "jellied eel" being synonymous with Southend-on-Sea despite the fact that it is a very traditional East End dish that can be purchased particularly from street stalls in Brick Lane. Yes, you can buy jellied eels from the sheds in Old Leigh but only due to demand from the influx of East End day-trippers and/or migrants.

That should no doubt have those who can't abide the thought of being linked with East End outfit West Ham United up in arms and marching on the offices at Roots Hall, crosses burning, eyes wild with indignation, suffering cruelly with the torment of an East End tradition being used as a mascot of Southend United ...

Is not Brick Lane now the home of your finest Kebab rather than the luscious JE ?

If we're supposed to be named after the biggest eceonomic activity in the area, shouldn't we be the 'Daytrippers' or the 'Call-centres' or, even better, 'The Commuters'?

Ironic then that we have such a good away support!
