Megson appointed Bolton manager

Megson has won only seven Premier League games out of 48
Bolton Wanderers have appointed Gary Megson as their new manager.
The former Leicester boss has signed a two-and-a-half year contract and will be in charge for Sunday's Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said: "Gary has demonstrated he has the right temperament for a battle, which this season is undoubtedly going to be."

Megson succeeds Sammy Lee and inherits a side bottom of the table with just five points from their first 10 games.

Wanderers finished eighth last season but struggled badly after Lee took over from Sam Allardyce in April.

Possibly the most bizarre and clueless appointment this season

Gartside insisted: "We feel Gary is the right man to take Bolton forward.

"We have to be fully focused on the task ahead and make sure we achieve immediate success.

"I have spoken to the staff and the players. We are all committed to getting behind Gary and turning our fortunes around."

Megson was Leicester manager for just six weeks.

He made it clear he wanted to leave the Walkers Stadium after Bolton were twice denied permission to speak to him.

The 48-year-old began his managerial career with Norwich in 1995 before spells in charge of Blackpool, Stockport and Stoke, where he left after just four months because of disagreements with the board.

He took over at West Bromwich Albion in 2000 and kept them in the First Division.

The Baggies were promoted to the top flight under Megson in 2002 and again two years later following their relegation.

He was axed by Albion in October 2004 after announcing that he intended to leave when his contract expired at the end of that season.

Megson took over at Nottingham Forest in January 2005 but resigned the following year after failing to turn the troubled club's fortunes around.

He spent 18 months out of management before being handed a return by Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric.

Megson's quick departure leaves Leicester looking for their fifth manager in the space of just six months.

How the hell did he get off the football scrapheap to a premiership job? Hes ****e.
