SOUTHEND United midfielder Merrick James-Lewis heads back to Braintree Town tonight determined to display the improved attitude he hopes can make him a success this season.

I like the look of this lad. Looked impressive v Wakering.

He has bulked out, is a fair size and wants the ball all the time.

I think he could be the next one to get a first team chance.

He certainly looks like he has the potential to make more impact on a game than Woodyard.

I have to say, he did well last Tuesday but lets put into context he was playing against Great Wakering. I watched on Sunday when he played a full game vs Raith and he went largely un-noticed. Im not a big fan. be interested to see how he copes against Conference opposition tonight.
Woodyard is more of a stopper, not great quality on the ball but fantastic work rate and breaks up alot of oppositions attacks. Woodyard has never excited me.

Im more of a Nesbitt fan.

With a lot of the youngsters playing, does anyone think it is Sturrock giving Braintree a chance to see who they want on loan next season? or just me.

A fair assumption. We need to loan a lot of these out next season, so makes sense.

Braintree played Col U last night - and left about 9 regulars out of their starting line up - I'm guessing they'll all feature tonight against us. they lost 1-0 against a relatively strong Col U side.

I think merrick-james could break through the 1st team. i know it was only against wakering but i was really impressed with him/ he pretty much bossed the game. would like she him maybe get a bit of a chance next season.
