Dear All,

There have been many best wishes messages to Alan on various threads and some folk when donating online via the Shrimpers Trust site have requested to leave a message.

So we thought we'd give everyone a chance to say a quick word on this thread, I'll then collate them, type them up on a sheet, get it framed and have it presented to Alan when he comes along to Roots Hall on 2 Sept.

Please therefore keep it brief ('thanks for the memories', 'all the best to our top spot kicker' etc), and no prob at all if you simply want to just say 'best wishes' with your name against it or repeat a message someone else has typed as it will still be your message

If you don't put your real (or any other!) name against your comment I'll just type in your SZ name against your words.

At the top I'll put a suitable heading - something like 'To one of our own from the fans of Southend United FC, September 2017' tho if anyone can think of a better title do let me know.

When finalised I'll take a pic of the final version for you all to see.

Lets see how we go, it's just an idea, if it takes off then great but if it doesn't then fine and I'll abandon it as the monies donated in tribute already prob say it all anyway, but it was thought it might be nice to present something in print too.

Depending on how things go I'll prob close this Tues or Weds next week, I'll post up a suitable definitive warning of it closing as that approaches

So, please type your brief message as a reply on this thread ......

Great idea!

Thanks for so many happy memories, wishing you all the very best #onceaShrimperalwaysaShrimper (Kay F)

Thanks to a top quality player & Southend legend. Best wishes.

"I can remember you clearly as a stalwart in our defence Alan, especially as we are a similar age. And when it came to penalties, you were Mr. Reliable. My sincere best wishes. Bryan W"

The days when football was a sport and you as always was Mr Dependable in the heart of the defence

Thank you for the memories and good times at Roots Hall on a Friday night

May your life be filled with happiness and good fortune, you truly deserve it

People only tend to remember strikers as their all time favourite players, but you would definitely be up there as one of mine.
All the very best in your on- going situation.

Alan, you gave us all loads of pleasure, you are a great man. I wish you many happy days. COYBB

You gave so much of yourself for Southend United, I'm just so grateful that we can give something back now. Good luck for the future Mr Moody, whatever it brings. Always one of my top Southend players.

Thank You for helping a young lad start a long love affair.
Best wishes for the future.

The captain of one of our best ever teams and in front of a packed Roots Hall you managed to put Kenny Dalglish in your back pocket. True SUFC legend.

Thanks for the memories Alan. What a great player. Very loyal having played for two clubs, us for 12 years. Mr reliable and consistent. You led by example as a captain, and should really have played at a higher level. We were very lucky you stayed with us. Wishing you all the very best, and thanks again for all you did for Southend United and the supporters.

April 1978 and we're away at Watford in a big Division Four promotion clash. We're awarded a second half penalty and a chance to equalise. I normally turn away when we get a penalty but not when Alan Moody takes them, 19,000 fans at Vicarage Road see him slot home the kick. The game ends 1-1, we are virtually promoted along with Watford and is witnessed by the country on that nights Match of the Day.

Thanks Alan for the memory.

Not sure if it is relevant but Joe Mcgill and I celebrated promotion in Westcliff Casino (known as Westcliff leisure centre then) with Alan and Steve Goodwin and they drunk us both under the table. No mean feat as people who knew Joe and me in the 70's will tell you!

Ah, now explained. I'll put it in, I'm sure Alan will love that one (but I'll now be able to jog his memory if needed)
