Tonight's referee will be Karl Evans from Manchester. He is in his third season and has refereed Southend twice before - away at Bristol Rovers last season (just one yellow there) and away at Swindon for Tilly's 300th match (three yellows for us). So not a good record, results-wise.
He is a sales rep, which is why he does so many games in the south of the country.
His statistics for the season are:
He has refereed 14 matches which have produced 42 yellow and 3 red cards ... so fairly average. Doesn't seem to have had a game for about 6 weeks; hope he's not making up for lost time.
Highlight of his short career is sending off Billy Paynter a while back.
Assisting will be Ashley Slaughter from Brighton and Paul Martin from Northampton and for the second match running our 4th official comes from Ilford, this time it's Barry Holderness.
