Hi it was on a Colchester based Facebook page if he wants a copy I could always check with the original poster of it but no doubt they found it on the internet as well.

Thank you - I'll pass this onto him - I'm sure he'll contact them to find out who owns it.

Odds and bits.

Thanks for all these responses - some great gig posters!

I just wanted to let you know that a page has been setup for people to submit memories to the book of when you've seen well-known bands play in Essex:

www.facebook.com/essexmusicmemories if you wish to get involved and potentially see your memories included.

Who remembers the club along from the Cliffs Pavillion , I believe the Animals played there back in the day as well as others .

I must have missed this first time around and am plonking this here to ensure that I get updates in future. I think my only relatively obscure treasure for the local gig-going was seeing The Ruts at Scamps in early '79. Malcolm Owen was a hub of energy and the sparse audience (mostly their posse from Southall) were pretty avid too.

Hello,

My Son-in-Law is researching the history of music in Essex, and wonders if anyone remembers or has photographs of a concert which took place at Roots Hall in July 1971?

It featured Yes, Atomic Rooster and Mott The Hoople, amongst others. Do you know why it was held? Also, has the ground held any other music events over the years?

Many thanks.
Yes there was a concert there featuring Fairport Convenrion,Alvin Lee's Ten years later and the Mickey Jupp band ,must have ben 1975.

Do you know how many turned up to watch it .
Think it was about 10,000 or so.

May 31, 1976 Roots Hall Stadium, Southend, ENG ('Southend Sounds '76', supported by Fairport Convention, Budgie, David Bromberg Band, Magna Carta, Mickey Jupp Band, Crossbreed, Highly Strung Vest & (compere) John Peel

My bad.The concert was in 1976 as the above extract (from a Google search shows).Forgot about John Peel. :Dunce:
