I never understood why allah would feel insulted by someone calling a teddy bear muhammed but not by his followers threatening to violently attack someone who calls a teddy bear muhammed.

Surely that's a weak argument. They didn't indulge in genocide in the name of atheism, nor are they somehow evidence that religion makes the world a safer place. Have to agree with Ronald Manager here - maybe it's time to pack away the fairy stories and all just get along......

If it's not religion, Homo Sapiens would find another reason to destroy each other. It's in our DNA.

No but it demonstrates that the worst mass killers of history did so with out the so called ideology of hatred that religion brings out in people and just shows what a ******** ego based race we are.

WE can also add various Ceasers who though their we're God's Byzantine God Kings Pharaohs and Genghis Khan (who in a letter to the Pope wondered why they he and god simply bow to him).

It's a methodology for making you feel a bit fuzzy (if you pick a "good" maybe wise benevolent and fluffy_ ... is religion it has a purpose like whittling , you use that to make interesting wooden objects , you don;t use either as form's of social control , government or an other overriding "because i said so " argument (same also goes for Evolutionary Scientist, just because they are evolutionary scientists !!!) .

Not at all. Communist Russia and Communist China actively opposed and tried to eradicate religion, as a result of which millions died. Far, far more people have died at the hands of, or following, leaders who actively opposed religion and saw it as dangerous, than have died in "religious" wars. The simplistic comment was the one that said ban religion and we would all automatically be lovely smiley happy people who wouldn't hurt a fly. We are Homo Sapiens. Conflict is what we do.

OK - banning religion wouldn't solve all the worlds problems but it would make it a beter place. Freeing up all their wealth would probably go some way to paying of most of the defecit and all that real estate could be used to provide affordable housing.

It's all fairy stories anyway. In the same way we look back at when we burned witches at the stake with disbelief we should by now be viewing people who worship any kind of god in the same manner.

Well as the witch burning was also a bit of a myth ;) (aside from Salam but those yanks tsk ), sadly COE is no longer teh largest land owners in the uk . And Only the Catholic church holds any real wealth (Scientology is a corporation ), none of thats going to help :P

Mind you fairy stories as we know them now (espically the Grimm tales ) were actually allegorical warnings on how to live life , and deep seated symbolism (Red Riding hood for instance though i suspect there's not many fellas that will get that one and the story of Snow white and her sister Rose Red ;) ).

The work generated for the building industry alone would stimulate the economy, having a knock on effect for all areas of the UK and solving a major social issue into the bargain.
