Nathan Bishop - England Call Up

SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has been called into the England under 20 squad for the Maurice Revello Tournament.

Great news for him and the club and very well deserved! hopefully they go on to retain the title and then he gets a good rest ahead of next season

Just a shame it is just for the one game left.. England have already played two of their three group games (lost both).
Hopefully he will get more call ups in future.
Well done to Nath

Great news for the lad, he is mustard and has a great career ahead of him!

I think that's the U22s Toulon Tournament

edit.... It is the U20's. Sky have it incorrectly labelled.

It's an odd tournament. It varies in strength from year to year, and while its always young teams, not all the teams are always the same age. England usually play U20 side, while most usually are U21, France this year I believe put their U18 side out and Portugal their U19. Mexico seem to put an U22 side when they are invited.

Fantastic news for young Nathan, and a fantastic advert for our academy. He has gained a huge amount of experience this season, and with an England call up under his belt he has a bright future!

A reminder that some things are going well amongst the backroom staff. Employing a full time goalkeeping coach has been money well spent.

Each success story makes it easier to sign the brightest local young talent.

I remember around 20/25 years ago even clubs like Maidstone had better connections with local PE teachers etc.

Agreed. I’d like to see a specialist defensive coach and another for the strikers too, if we could afford it. It’s clearly worked wonders for the goalkeepers right throughout the club - which is a huge testament to Lee Harrison.
