Sitting down is normally a luxury on a train anyway...but this takes the mickey! National Rail also run the Southend Victoria - London Liverpool Street line...that's me 'C2C' ing it when possible if this comes in then

I think you mean National Express? What that news article doesn't make clear is that the charge doesn't apply to advance purchase tickets so simply book in advance and you won't have to pay it. Here's a more balanced piece
