Neville Southall

The worse keeper we have ever had. It was a grim time supporting Blues!

On debut his performance at Brentford was outstanding, I distinctly remember one save from an Andy Scott overhead kick that was out of this world. After that yes he was poor but anyone who says he's the worst keeper we've ever had has clearly blocked Mark Prudhoe out of their memory.... :stunned:

Mel Capleton wasn't that great either.

He was more of a terrible signing than a terrible player - IIRC he was only signed to cover a Roycie one match suspension.

Roycie was our best player that season, regularly rescuing us from the 1-on-1s Keith Dublin routinely offered the opposition each match, yet Roycie couldn't get back in the line-up as inexplicably Southall kept his place despite us keep losing and Big Nev's initial one month loan spell was even extended for a second month - even after the 5-0 debacle at bottom of the table Carlisle!
