I normally start off by looking at previous matches between the two clubs; in this case there has been none.

So straight to tomorrow’s referee. He will be Adam Herczeg, from Gateshead. In his late 20s he is the Newcastle United Foundation Project Manager and he has been involved in charitable stuff since his schooldays. His name suggests Hungarian somewhere in his genealogy.

He is now in his second season as a National League referee. Last season his 14 matches saw 42 yellow cards and 2 reds. This season he had already done 7 games with 28 yellows, but no reds. He has also taken charge of several U23 development matches. He has refereed Altrincham twice before at this level, their 0-0 draw at home to Weymouth last season and this season’s 2-0 defeat at Halifax. There were 3 yellows in each game, 2 going to Altrincham on both occasions. He also refereed Altrincham’s 3-2 away win at Southport in the qualifying round of the FA Cup back in October. Going back a little further he took charge of the National League North play-off final which saw Altrincham promoted after overcoming Boston United.

If he’s as good as last Friday’s referee, there should be few complaints.

Assistants are Danny Guest from the Rotherham/Doncaster area who carried out a similar role in our game at Solihull and Steven Lawson from Stockton-on-Tees. Mark Ryder from Liverpool will be standing by as Fourth Official.

Steve Lawson is not going to be there. Replaced by Blake Antrobus from Shrewsbury.

You learn something new every day. I didn’t realise Adam was a Hungarian name
