I normally start off by looking at previous matches between the two clubs; in this case there has been none.

So straight to tomorrow’s officials. I expected them to be the same as the original appointments but only one of the Assistants survived.

Tomorrow’s match will be refereed by the relatively inexperienced, at this level, Scott Tallis from Coventry.

He works in sales at a logistics and supply chain organisation and, now in his second season, he has refereed 31 matches at this level and shown a decidedly average 90 yellow and 4 red cards.

This season’s 11 games have produced 30 yellows and 1 red, a statistic distorted somewhat by the 10 yellows in his first match. He picked up that solitary red last week as a late replacement in the Wrexham v Yeovil match.

He makes his second appearance at Roots Hall having been in charge of our comprehensive beating by Chesterfield back in October. I don’t think too much blame was attributed to him and the match was cardless.

Twenty percent of his matches last season involved Maidenhead: their defeats at Barnet and Dagenham, their hefty home defeat by Hartlepool and their home win against Yeovil.

Assistants are Alan Cresswell from Harrow and Farai Hallam from London. The latter has a top role as Premier League Academy Manager having previously worked for the FA for 8 years in various senior roles leading up to National Referee Manager. A promising footballer, who aspired to represent Zimbabwe, he was at Stevenage as an academy player and turned out at Boots and Laces in a 0-1 victory for them. Injuries ended his playing career before it got going.

Aaron Conn, an Army man from Gillingham, will be standing by as Fourth Official.
