Not for dog lovers

I'm not a big fan of dogs, but live and let live, but I'm fed up with running in parks and being chased by dogs and dodging the dog poo. Yesterday I'm running with my 9 years old daughter and she gets chased by an alsation. The owner did not like me shouting at his dog, could have turned nasty. it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. I felt like thumping him.

Can anyone advise on the legal position ? No abuse from dog lovers please.

im a dog lover but also a dad and i would not let my dog off the leash if it was gonna chase someone, i would do anything to stop a dog going for my kids and i have also had a go at dog owners about their dogs also in which it has also got heated, owners should know what their dogs are like and should be held responsable for their dogs actions.

A dog is a animal and needs correct training and care - sadly this in far too many cases does not happen. As with so many things in this world it is the human (dog owner) that is at fault and not the animal. A proper licensing system is required and stronger punishments from the courts etc. This also goes for owners of all animals particularly horse owners, keepers of birds and those who choose to keep more exotic animals and reptiles. I would also extend this to those having children but don't think I could get away with this quite so much.

As a dog lover my first concern is that my dog does not bother anyone - most other dog owners I know are the same but there will always be one or two who don't give a **** about other people.
Alsations need to be properly trained and a well trained Alsation is unbelievably good but they are apparently uneasy with unusual behaviour, i.e people running or riding bikes. If you see the same dog ask your daughter to walk till it goes away. It will probably ignore her.
I know its wrong that you have to curtail your own activities but better safe than sorry.

Sounds like a dog that's been bloody awfully socialised to me. Best advice I know is to stop, fold arms and turn away. Dog probably thinks you're prey and is running on instincts. Human is bloody stupid for not at the very least calling the dog close and keeping it to heel until it/you pass. Personally, I'd leash it.

My ex was savaged by an Alsatian, the owners done a bunk and left her with some nasty scars and a lifetime fear of dogs of any size. If you know who he is, report it to the police before it's too late.

The biggest problem is idiots who justify their dogs being off the lead by claiming they are 'friendly'

All dogs should be muzzled and on a lead in public. Any deviation from this should be punished with a large fine and the animal being destroyed.

I was bitten by a German Shepherd once. But he apologised afterwards and even introduced me to his dog.
