In a world of my own.
Was out in Amsterdam all last weekend on "The Bloke in the Pram Shops" stag do. We did various activities whilst out there but of of my favs which sadly only a few of the stag party got to see due to a big night the night before was I went to Amsterdam Arena to see Ajax vs NAC Breda.

I have in fairness seen England play there before so the stadium was not as impressive for me as some of the other lads but we settled down with some cracking seats on the half way line.

Ajax team reads like a who's who of Dutch Football compared to the virtual unknowns in Breda's team. I sat down expecting a goal feast for Ajax as they have scored 12 in there last 4 home games and boast Klaus-Jan Hunteelar who has 12 in 12 games so far.

Much to my surprise and delight NAC Breda played possibly the best counter attacking football I have ever seen. They ended up winning 3-1 and despite being in the Ajax end when the third one went in I couldnt held but clap. They were simply fantastic from start to finish.

Feyenoord has always been my dutch team as Dad of DtS got me a strip when we went there on holiday as a kid but I am not dumping them (Sorry Dad) for NAC Breda.

Anyone else been on holiday and fallen in love with a Random team.

;)

Clyde. Mate of mine plays for them now... Not quite holiday related, but definitely obscure...

My nearest Scottish league club!

My one, Empoli in Italy, the Mrs tried to get me tickets for my 30th but for whatever reason it didn't happen. Hope to get to see them one day, especially if they can stay in Serie A!

My Following of the Mighty Clachnaccudin of the Highland league and my interest in Cobh ramblers bot started by watching them on holiday.
We try to get to see a local team , when possible, whilst on holiday

Well, they're not a small team, but if there's a European team I follow above all others, it's OL - Olympique Lyonnais. Some mates of mine are OL season ticket holders, so I pop along to the Gerland with them once a season. Given that they've won Le Championnat for the last 6 years in a row, they probably fall foul of DtS's "obscure" rule, but as you might imagine, they are an awesome side, and they play wonderful passing football.

Which is why, occasionally, I am found jumping up & down in that strange European fashion in the Stade Gerland, chanting...

Qui ne saut-e pas c'est pas Lyonnais, hé!

:D

I saw a game in the now defunct US League between Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Washington Diplomats. The Diplomats side fielded ex Southend favourite Peter Sylvester.

I read a book about Castel Di Sangro - some random italian football team a few years back and ive always looked out for their results. Oddly enough Cremonese too as they played in thisweird Red and grey stripe kit.

Hertha Berlin for me. Went to see them on a stag do a few years back and have had a soft spot for them ever since.

I'd like to think the lads who went on my stag now have a soft spot for Spanish team Real Betis, who we went to see get humped by Osasuna back in June.

That book is great isn't it? The Miracle of Castel di Sangro who reached Serie B (probably the equivalent of Rushden & Diamonds hitting the Championship)

I love that kit, grey/red stripes, never been able to find one though, even places like Subside & specialist Italian shirt websites don't do them. Probably the technology of the time but when Cremonese were in Serie A from afar that shirt looked kind of pink on TV.

Accrington Stanley for the romance, and St. Etienne (nothing to do with Sarah Cracknall.... ;) )

Some Jags songs for you :-

We're Partick Thistle through and through
We hate the boys in royal blue
We hate the bhoys in emerald green
So f**k the pope & f**k the queen

Singing I'm no Killie, I'm a Jag
Singing I'm no Killie, I'm a Jag
Singing I'm no Killie
Don't be so f**king silly
Singing I'm no Killie, I'm a Jag

FC Sion, Switzerland. When I went on my Geography field trip there 2 years ago (christ, was it really that long ago?!), that was the nearest town/city we were staying near and fell in love with the place. I did want to go to a game but wasnt playing when we were there.

Dave ... how was the weekend in general!?

:)

Kev

;)

You sound like your saying that like you know something yet there is nothing to know..?

In general though I had a wicked time Kev thanks for asking. Except for the fact I seemed to be a magnet for every drug dealer in Holland it was a top time.

Not fallen in love with a team or owt, however, last time i went to Corfu, i bought an Olymipacos (sp) shirt, and wore it for a few days... the amount of cheers and hoots, and boos and "malaka's" i got was quite unexpected!

Leyton Orient. Crap lower division English club who never have, and never will do anything. Have no family ties to them, and I don't live anywhere near them. An utterly nonsensical obsession.

Come on Jonny. Let's face it, you do secretly have a little bit of love for that team that plays at Roots Hall don't you? You know, the one who scores more goals for you when we play you than your own team do?

:D
