With even the Daily Mail proclaiming that it is great to be British how long after the Beijing Olympic flame is extinguished will it take for us to return to living in "Broken Britain" and be subjected to daily stories about economic disaster and spiralling violent crime?

I'll give it 3 days.

About 5 mins after Team GB are back in the UK. They have done great but the excitement wont last.

Its on a par with tennis racquet sales during wimbledon.

It'll all be great until they have an official reception with Gordon Brown. The minute any of them are photographed next to him they'll be jinxed for life.

I'm surprised the Tories aren't making more of our Olympic success, afterall virtually all our medals have been in cycling, where our brave Olympians were clearly inspired by Cameron and Boris. The only cyclist not to win a medal was Cav, who as a Manx wouldn't follow Parliament.

arguably John Major should take most of the credit - he introduced the National Lottery

Or indeed Norman Tebbit. He was the one who told us to get on our bikes.
