...... we played Preston away and lost 2-0.

28 years ago today we lost a cup replay at Plymouth also 2-0.

31 years ago today we lost a cup match at home to Hereford, this time only 1-0

however

35 years ago today we won a cup replay at home to Exeter (those who went to the first drawn match by train may still recall the "complimentary" refreshments on the way back with a large barrel of cider liberated from the back yard of the pub over the road from the station!)

36 years ago today we won a cup match against Swansea.

So is this the correct interpretation of this sequence ? :winking:

Won, Won, Lost ; Lost , Lost -> WIN

Remember it well Mick, although we had also drunk a large amount of cider before the match

8 years ago today saw the first match under the control of a certain Mr S Tilson

Southend United 4 Rochdale 0 .. and so the fairytale began :conductor:

1983 Plymouth Argyle (A) 0-2
1980 Hereford United (H) 0-1
1976 Exeter City (H) 2-1
1975 Swansea City (H) 2-0
1952 Bath City (A) 1-3
1922 Sittingbourne (H) 4-2

We've had a good few FA Cup games on this day, after beating us Plymouth went on to reach the Semi Finals only to lose out to Elton Johns Watford (cue his tears of pride when they lined up in the Final verses Everton) .. we played 25 home matches in 1980/81, winning 20 drawing 4 and losing this cup tie to a side that would end the season as the leagues 92nd placed club.
The Swansea clash in 1975 was the start of our journey to the 5th Round where it was to be ended by Derby County .. cue much teeth gnashing from OBL and canveyshrimper amongst many i'm sure

The Hereford game in 1980 came in the middle of a long unbeaten home spell where we hardly conceded a goal.

I think I'm right in saying that we famously beat Villa 1-0 40 yearsago on Sunday 20th November.
