I'm glad that Colchester had the experience of a half decent crowd, for a long, long, time. Indeed the 8,651 attendance must be the biggest gate since before all those children, to our right yesterday, were born. When they were trying to sing "one team in Essex", they should bare in mind that compared to that one gate, in the last five years we have beaten that gate on the following occassions:

2008/09 11,314 Chelsea
2008/09 10,132 Leeds
2008/09 8,920 Col Ewe
2008.09 9,261 Borient
2008/09 8,665 Peterborough
2007/08 9,828 Borient
2007/08 8,758 Millwall
2007/08 9,281 Carlisle
2007/08 9,819 Leeds
2007/08 9,787 Swansea
2007/08 9,286 Northampton
2007/08 9,242 Port Vale
2007/08 9,109 Doncaster
2006/07 8,971 Stoke
2006/07 9,848 Sunderland
2006/07 9,639 Sheffield Wed
2006/07 11.072 Norwich City
2006/07 9,821 Coventry
2006/07 11,415 Ipswich
2006/07 10,234 Hull
2006/07 11,532 Man United
2006/07 9,263 Preston
2006/07 9,411 Wolves
2006/07 10,867 Southampton
2006/07 9,781 Birmingham
2006/07 9.907 West Brom
2006/07 10,745 Derby
2006/07 10,217 QPR
2006/07 10,419 Crystal Palace
2006/07 10,528 Leicester
2006/07 8,855 Burnley
2006/07 11,274 Leeds
2006/07 10,552 Col Ewe
2006/07 10,089 Barnsley
2006/07 10,276 Luton
2005/06 10,104 Nottm Forest
2005/06 11,049 Swansea
2005/06 10,046 Brentford
2005/06 8,717 Col Ewe
2005/06 8,180 Blackpool
2005/06 11,195 Gillingham
2005/06 10,397 Doncaster
2005/06 11,387 Bristol City
2004/05 9,189 Borient
2004/05 11,735 Yeovil
2004/05 9,153 Northampton

Excuse me if I've missed any but I make the score;

Col Ewe 1-46 SOUTHEND UNITED

Now who is the "One" team in Essex?

DoDtS

More there for Yeovil than Man Utd. Didn't know what.

Average attendances of around 7,000 still won't cut it if we have Championship aspirations.

The segregation for Yeovil was a mere 3 seats, due to the remote chance of it going off, i'd be very surprised if that gate is bettered before we leave RH

Great stats btw DoDtS

Just to add to these stats, did anyone notice a nice centre page spread in their programme all about the blue voice!?

If i saw an article in our programme about their equivalent group (if they had one) i'd be livid.

Thats another 1-0 Southend in my book...

Thought their programme gave us quite decent coverage actually, though there was an awful lot about someone called Lee Smith.........!

Nice also, to see the article on Gutteridge. Oh, and that Yeovil game - was that not the final match of the season when they won promotion?

should take out the 'cup' games, as these were one off's and maybe work it out as a % against capacity. If Col U's ground only holds 8000 for example and we can hold 12500.....might get a more accurate reading.

But even so, ONLY ONE TEAM IN ESSEX worth worrying about.

Oh, and that Yeovil game - was that not the final match of the season when they won promotion?

... but it was the final home league match of the season we won promotion !

... and yes Yeovil won the division that year.

It wasnt a bad article on Gutts but I was quite surprised how bitter he seemed to be about his time with us. Considering he was a first team regular that helped us to a League title compared with a fringe player at Col Ewe he seemed very bias in their favour with his comments.

I managed to notice the one page which didn't feature you Smiffy, following the Blue Voice spread, Lee's thoughts on Southend's season and Smiffy wrongly predicts all of the afternoon's scores.

I imagine you probably did Lambert's programme notes for him as well, since he appears to speak a similar amount of nonsense !!:whistling:

Can anybody reproduce that on here if possible as I'm very interested in what he had to say and as I didn't go on Saturday I didn't get a programme.
