I had every intention of defying my usual trend of taking only 4 photos every trip to see Southend play, but the above is all I got this time around :D
Friday morning started bright and early at 7am, where Billy no mates here made his way to Shannon Airport. Got a sneaky, and rather greasy Maccy D's brekkie, which I regretted on the plane (and so did the bird sitting beside me no doubt). Made it into Southend on the bus around 3 PM, got me match ticket, and hit the seafront for the b&b - Then onto the Spread for the exiles reunion, minus Mr Nesbitt from Aberdeen, who decided to head down the week there's no home match
Was great seeing everyone over there, you all made the trip even better. Best moments included BrettieAngell spilling his fresh pint when attempting a hug over a picnic table, Jonny Stokes 'taking' the Spread after the match, and us deliberating who Wiggy really is...Turns out Matt the Shrimp knows apparently, but when we further pondered out loud - someone finally admitted to being the infamous lover of the Flavs. "I am Wiggy!" he emphatically proclaimed in the beer garden. Ladies and gents - Presenting, Mr True Blue ;)
Before Kick Off, myself, Cricko, Southminster Shrimper and OBL had a chat, and all of them brought up the point of the disgraceful treatment of Richie Foran. They're even going to start a petition, which is a wonderful gesture on their part IMO :support:
As for the match, It was great to see us absolutely batter the Orient. Federici was fantastic - kicking was unbelievable, made everything look so easy. Sawyer is an absolute gem of a lad too - was everywhere and will be a big name in the future. Seeing Macca make his comeback made the trip all the more worthwhile too - great to see him getting such an ovation. Dean Morgan got quite a bit of stick from the West, I was humming the "Morgan, Morgan, Morgan Morgan what's the score?" all the way home. :D Despite what some are saying, I thought TBV did a good job on the singing and drumming front - and I couldn't hear the away fans much at all.
An hour before the flight at Stansted and the usual mugs were already queing at the gate. Flight was delayed by over an hour more, and still they continued to stand rather than sit...all vying for the 'best' seats on the plane no doubt... Funnily enough, the car in front of me on the way back to Limerick Saturday afternoon had an Orient car sticker. I held up a 3-0 with my fingers through the window when in traffic, which he didn't look too pleased about. Ho Hum. :whistling:
See you all against the Col U in November. Haven't seen us concede a goal yet this season, so 17-0 it shall be.
