I've just installed a new SS HD, reinstalled Ubuntu and it's running faster than a greased up road runner, so I think we can say my old HD was fugged! Thread can be deleted mods.

Just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. Looks very different and lots of CMD prompts needed to install stuff etc but ill get used to it. Having a bit of trouble installing bits as although I'm an Admin it still falls over at times when installing. Need to get on some Ubuntu forums I think

Yer, they're pretty helpful. Installed nothing but the base OS on mine, it's all I need.

Having never used Linux before, I've got nothing to compare Unity against. Can I install Mint onto Ubuntu 14.04 to overwrite Unity?

If you just want to try out Mint without changing anything on your PC download the ISO image and burn to DVD, then just boot the system from the DVD (usually referred to as running it as a Live CD/DVD).

There's three different versions of Mint running different Window Managers, I'd recommend Cinnamon, grab it here ->
