Our squad

its tilson and barrett coming in on thurs.. ron has fooled the press ...it will be a breath of fresh air guys.. i can see it.

Half of Saturday's starting line-up have been here more than two seasons.
The point of **** poor recruitment still stands. If we look at the players who have been here for more than 2 seasons from Sat line up

Oxley - Out of form a long time - in decline
Elvis - Youth
Kiernan - Career threatening injury seems to have completely ruined him.
Macca - Seems to be winning over a few with high levels of effort but it's clear he has not got the ability anymore this has been quite apparent for the last two seasons.
Cox - Been good for the club but he's older he's in decline.

Mix that lot with the Shambolic recruitment and it's really not hard to see why we are struggling.

Players who are with us for a while will always decline, if they improve they move on to better things but it's down to the recruitment to keep things fresh and the team improving or just at a similar level. Ours has been awful resulting in this situation.

Cox split up with his long term mrs last season, then missed pre-season with injury and has been forced to play every game because everyone else is injured. It's possible these two things might be more important than him being passed it. Playing up top on his own won't help

Ian Henderson has been at Rochdale for 6 years and is still a very solid and important player for them. Plenty of other examples in the lower leagues. Not having a stable core /spine is more of an issue at our level. Constant rotation due to recruitment is not always successful, for a start the squad never has enough time to gel. The flip side of course is that certain players can become too influential. End of the day it all boils down to individual characters and how they are managed.

Very fair for the reason why he may not be playing as well as he has done but this just goes back to our poor recruitment. Things what happen to Coxy happen in every team but our inability to sign anyone half decent to allow him a break (especially without the pre-season)boils down to us again.

Obviously there are anomalies.

But, at our level, if a player who plays every week improves and develops their game during the course of their contract they will be looking to move up the pyramid should their team not.

Would argue the six transfer windows since Steve Kavanagh left have absolutely ruined us.

Unfortunately for us, I would imagine there are other teams watching Elvis and rightly so.
The thing about Elvis is that he stands out because his work rate is so much higher than everyone else at the moment. However, he's a long way from being on other clubs' radar in my opinion.

Half of the time hes back in midfield or defending, its like he has a free role at present and doesn't know what to do with it. Hes been poor the last few weeks (granted everyone has) but even seeing his lack of enthusiasm to get the team going or fighting when he was captain at the weekend was frustrating.

Assuming we only take up the option for Elvis, this will be who is left from our squad next season.

GK:
Mark Oxley - 2021
Nathan Bishop - 2021 (option until 2022)

DEF:
Jason Demetriou - 2021 (option until 2022)
Harry Lennon - 2021
Harry Kyprianou - 2021
Nathan Ralph - 2021 (option until 2022)
Elvis Bwomono - 2020 (option until 2021)

MID:

Isaac Hutchinson - 2021

FWD:

Stephen Humphrys - 2021
Tom Hopper - 2021
Charlie Kelman - 2021
Brandon Goodship 2021 (option until 2022)

Wow. That'll be some clearout.

Totally necessary though. -we would need someone who has the equivalent of Luggy's experience knowledge and contacts though to put a decent squad togetherm

that looks like our wage bill will be a lot lighter when we go down then, it also frees up a lot of space in the squad for a manager to put their stamp on the side

Really? I think that about half can happily be wished onwards to seek their fortunes elsewhere but your suggestion is a tad defeatist and harsh.

To be honest we need a thorough clear-out of an almost "Sturrock-style" magnitude at the end of the season - this group of players as a collective is diabolical. Agree on Elvis though, we have to get him signed up long-term.

The fact there are so many contracts up this season gives me hope that next season this nightmare will seem like a distant dream. A new scout would be handy before we start signing though.
