A JILTED boyfriend tried to get revenge on his ex by forcing his way into her house covered in mince, a court has heard.

In a weird act of vengeance, Liam McGarry slapped Laura Barr and spat lumps of meat into her face before she managed to escape.

A neighbour helped her to get McGarry, 22, out of the house but he was still shouting, swearing and kicking at the door when police arrived.

McGarry was so high on speed, the court heard, that police were unable to caution and charge him.

At Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday, McGarry, formerly of Kirklandneuk, Renfrew, admitted breaching the peace.

The court heard how McGarry turned up at Laura's home in Lodge Road, Renfrew, last July and took a garden hoe and two hammers from a shed before forcing open a window.

Jonathan Miller, prosecuting, said: 'His behaviour was bizarre as he had covered himself with mince.'

Laura Barr had finished the relationship with McGarry four weeks earlier and he claimed he was there 'to say things to her'.

McGarry's defence counsel confirmed that amphetamine misuse lay at the root of his client's problems.

Referring to the incident at Laura's home, the lawyer said: 'He is at a complete loss to explain the significance of the mince or why he had coated himself in it.'

McGarry also admitted a breach of the peace at his mother's home in Renfrew in January.

Sheriff David Pender placed McGarry on probation for 18 months and ordered him to attend drug counselling.

But he warned him he could face jail if he did not comply with the terms of his order.
