Loughton - the only way is Orange!
Never worried me TBH and probably carried on so long as a bit of a two finger salute to the political correct brigade.
Rebekah Brooks vowed to end it and in the end championed it but writing was on the wall when Murdoch implied it was outdated. Love it or hate it it has been part of our modern culture for the last 40 plus years and did inspire a cracking record by the Lambrettas.

Nothing much has changed in almost 30 years....

It says here that the Unions will never learn
It says here that the economy is on the upturn
And it says here we should be proud
That we are free
And our free press reflects our democracy

Those braying voices on the right of the House
Are echoed down the Street of Shame
Where politics mix with bingo and tits
In a strictly money and numbers game

Where they offer you a feature
On stockings and suspenders
Next to a call for stiffer penalties for sex offenders

It says here that this year's prince is born
It says here do you ever wish
That you were better informed
And it says here that we can only stop the rot
With a large dose of Law and Order
And a touch of the short sharp shock

If this does not reflect your view you should understand
That those who own the papers also own this land
And they'd rather you believe
In Coronation Street capers
In the war of circulation, it sells newspapers
Could it be an infringement
Of the freedom of the press
To print pictures of women in states of undress

When you wake up to the fact
That your paper is Tory
Just remember, there are two sides to every story

What about a 3som?? then surly there are 3 sides to the story

It was a shame that the original objective (trying to reduce the sexual objectification of women) got hijacked by prudish 'feminists' who wanted to get rid of nudity for nudities sake.

Some glamour models came under horrendous abuse for stating the sensible point, that surely feminism is about women doing what they wanted to do.

Excellent song and good riddance to page 3.

Now if only Murdoch was forced to relinquish his stranglehold on GB media.:whistling:

I strongly suspect Murdoch has been playing up the feminist angle to deflect anger away from The Sun. As the original post said Murdoch had said Page 3 was outdated in the past. There's plenty of naked women on the internet so Page 3 is kind of redundant, no one is going to buy The Sun over another paper because of Page 3 but it does have the potential to turn people off. The Sun was going to have to stop Page 3 at some point and with the recent petition against it they've had a good opportunity to blame someone else for it.

Of course, I don't condone the abuse but it's a very twisted view of feminism that displaying your norks and/or front bottom is anyway shape of form female empowerment.

Female empowerment isn't all about flat tops, boiler suits and DM boots either.

Standard patriarchal view to say what a women can and can't feel empowered from:whistling:

Didn't say it was.

I'm sure any feminist will tell you that it's being treated the same (and paid the same) as a man, and not being judged just on your physical attributes.

Both women and men have been admired for their naked bodies long before Murdoch took over the Sun. Have a trawl through history - the ancient greeks didn't seem to mind to much.

Unless it suits them to do so. Women objectify men just as much and use their sexuality all the time to get what they need. All this sexism stuff is such a complete load of BS, women have all the power and always have done.

124 female MPs in a house of 654.
1 woman "chairman" in the list of FTSE 100 companies.

...and a wealth of other examples I'm sure.
