Ron Martin treated him so badly at the end. Top bloke Mr Sturrock.

Totally agree with you Wildheart, also felt for Phil Brown at the time, which was an awkward situation

Mr Sturrock deserves a lot of admiration from us supporters, the way he went about the business of rebuilding a team from cast offs and journeymen

Good on him, great guy!! He saved us in terrible times and probably some of the best signings we've had in years. Class act seeing him at the pub before the JPT final chatting to countless fans!!

Hopefully Ron still has his number saved for the 2020/21 season...

LOUIS van Gaal is often creditted for being the first manager to swap goalkeepers for a penalty shoot-out - but Southend United supporters will always know otherwise.

FORMER Southend United manager Paul Sturrock is still frustrated he was denied the opportunity to take charge of the Shrimpers in the 2013 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

Undoubtedly saved the club from exiting out the league and probably the most important managerial appointment in the clubs history so far. What he managed to achieve with no resources when we were even in a bigger mess than this season .A top bloke too with a passion for football.

Yes, Paul Sturrock is a Southend hero - his little book with player contacts in it, his little birdie tweets (via his daughter?), his total professionalism throughout whilst battling a debilitating illness, his sheer nous. The saviour of Southend United.

We should also mention Anthony Grant, a player whose loyalty when everyone else left the sinking ship reportedly cost him a transfer to a Championship club. Grant has been criticised for his attitude at one or two of the clubs he has played for since leaving us, but there was no criticism while he played for us; Sturrock built a team around him.
